Default Ginny

LOL Ginny was some dumb sh*t LOL and s**cked a$$ LOL. Oh wait, that's the other guy. Sorry. What I meant was, there are stories out there that Bonnie had Ginny fired out of professional jealousy. Did anyone find the character so hysterically funny or overpowering that she threatened to turn into Fonzie or Urkel and take over?

OMG!! Opus. You do sound like that that other poster! I was like What is up with Opus, that's not his style of posting!

No! Not at all. I didn't think she was all that great! Certainly wasn't going to take over and be the most popular character ! And looks wise. Bonnie Franklin had nothing to be jealous of there! Ginny was kind of homely, very manly looking. I was thinking that the other night watching a scene with them together. Ann looks like a beauty queen compared to big manly Ginny!

And I'm not saying Bonnie definitely did that. Just that if you look around you can find claims of it. ( I'm trying to avoid lawsuits from the Franklin estate).

Mary Louise Wilson has written her memoirs, so maybe we'll get some backstage gossip about her time on One Day at a Time.

As an old woman she actually looks "softer", like prettier than her rough younger self! ! She kind of resembles an older Alice from the Brady Bunch in that picture!

Or I know who!! She reminds me of Mike's Mom in "Mike and Molly"!

Sorry guys! I liked her and thought she did a wonderful job in the role. I wish she'd had another role somewhere else.

I loved her outspoken, brassy manner, she was like a younger but lower-class version of Maude. I thought she was the best thing about the show and to me I was very disappointed when she disappeared from the opening credits in Season 3. I have her book ordered and it should be here any day. BTW, I've seen her in NURSE JACKIE and the Roseanne Barr film SHE-DEVIL and she was hysterical! Again...LOVE her...definitely one of my favorite character actresses.

If she writes about her time on the show, could you post back with some info?

Sure, but I think she will probably just gloss over it like she did in that Youtube interview a couple years back. She said then that she "begged Norman Lear to let me out" because she hated the writing which conflicts with the theory Bonnie had her ousted for scene-stealing.

We just got through season two and it seems Ginny was only in a handful of eps anyway! She was a flash in the pan, as far as I see? She didn't seem to make the show any better but didn't make it worse either . She kind of was just there. only memorable ep was the Singles bar cause she worked there. Other than that, any ep she was in could have done without her IMO!

The characters other importance is being the catalyst for, love 'em or hate 'em, the series of New Years Eve shows, since she knew some of the home residents from the bar, and was thus their connection to the family.

I've been reading MLW's book the last few days. I've skimmed through the middle chapters where she talks about ODAAT. No mention of Mac or Val. She did say she never found Pat's character at all amusing, but that he was hysterical off-camera. She didn't really directly diss Bonnie but was not exactly complimentary. The basic complaint was that Bonnie was considered the "expert" on acting/theatre training for reasons that were lost on ML who had a lot more experience, so I think there was some resentment on her part.
