I mean since that character was known for physical comedy and was not involved in the pie smashing at all

At the very end, the Ropers hit Jack in the face with pies. It was Chrissy who did not get hit by anyone, so she shoved the pie in her face herself.

That wasn't a good episode. It had three good moments, but that's it: When Janet caught Chrissy eating the pie, when Chrissy tried to hide the fact she'd just eaten the pie, and when Chrissy hit herself with a pie.

Suzanne Somers must have had extra fun doing that episode!

All the eps are much better after season 3
