I know that after the show ended he directed and starred in the movie MACON COUNTY LINE (and I think its sequel RETURN TO MACON COUNTY LINE) and he directed the movie ODE TO BILLY JO (based on a 1987 song by Bobbie Gentry) but did he do any other movies?

According to Wikipedia, Max didn't do much in acting or directing after The Beverly Hillbillies. The show may have typecast him, which is too bad. He seemed very personable.
I read that Max tried to get into the casino business but that doesn't seem to have worked out either. Does anyone have any additional info?? |

Max only directed 3 movies. He wrote and directed the 1975 movie The Wild McCullochs. His last movie as a director was the 1979 comedy Hometown USA. He also produced the 1972 movie Two For The Money.
He didn't direct Macon County Line, he wrote it. Max had no involvement in the sequel Return To Macon County. |

Max is actually a very wealthy man. For many years, MACON COUNTY LINE and ODE TO BILLY JOE were among the most profitable independent features of all-time, so he amassed quite a fortune. He, in turn, took that fortune and invested much of it into real estate along the Wilshire Blvd. corridor in Los Angeles, some in Beverly Hills, which turned out to be a shrewd move. If you enter "Max Baer Jr. Net Worth" in Google, you will find he is worth $50 million, but I think that is a conservative estimate.
