When James mentioned he his job was in Alaska, why did the family react so negatively

before they found out that James was the only going? Wouldn;t it have been a good thing to leave the projects?


Michael saying Alaska is too new to have ghettos and JJ saying he don;t like eskimo chicks all seemed weird if they were going to have a new life

Well it is FREEZING in Alaska!!! If my Dad had come home when I was a kid and said he got a job in Alaska, I think I'd be pretty freaked out!

If it was Hawaii, Florida or California , I'd be all ready packing my bags, but FREEZING cold Alaska, I'd be like Dad, you lost your mind!!!

LOL I live in California now and it's no big deal, it's not as cool as it would be to a kid in the 1970's!

I would have been so glad to get out the projects that I would have welcomed Alaska with open arms lol

Now I lived in the ghetto but never had to live in the projects which was a good thing

But it was SO FAR away!!!! And I would picture ice and cold and living in an igloo if I was young! I think it would really seem weird to kids to go to Alaska back than, now they could research on the internet more and see it's more civilized, but still , it's cold, WAY colder than Chicago and FAR from where they were from! And even if they lived in the ghetto or projects , and it would be a better life, do kids really see it that way? It would mean leaving their friends and neighbors that they knew and grew up with ( Wilona) !
