Default Can't understand why the "Beverly Lasalle" character was KILLED off

Was there ever a reason mentioned for this?

Beverly LaSalle was a gay man who dressed up as a woman (transvestite) so some ignorant bigots killed him for being different. That's the reason he was killed. I remember Edith was devastated. She loved him very much and was angry with god. She stopped going to church for a while.

I mean why did the character have to be KILLED lol They could not think of no other way for the character to leave and not return?

Was the actor not allowed on AITF anymore?

I guess they were trying to be socially relevant for the time.
It was sad. I really liked Beverley LaSalle a lot. It was funny when Archie was trying to pull a practical joke on his friend Pinky by setting him up on a date with Beverley. But Archie's little joke backfired on him.

The episodes with Beverly LaSalle were some of my favorites. Edith was so open-minded and non judgmental that she became good friends with Beverly. The actor that played her did a great job.

LOL! It was hilarious when Edith had first realized that Beverly was really a man! Again, she was so accepting of everyone that it didn't matter to her that he was a man living as a woman. Too bad there weren't more people like Edith in the world. I will agree that most likely they were showing what was controversial at the time, which was really the foundation of the show. I loved how AITF showed that "grey area" with such taste and even comedy in many of their episodes. And they told the Beverly story with that same good taste, without being dishonest. They showed both sides of the coin....people like Edith who was loving and accepting and then the sad and nasty side that ended his life.

A lot of transvestites are actually heterosexual. So even if he does dress in women's clothing.... that doesn't make him a "homo."

Hot4Rickey's profile page says female, so I wouldn't be surprised if she did wear some women's clothes.

Not to mention, I just looked at my calendar, and it's still 2015 out there. Even if that were the case, I don't see why that would be out of the ordinary or viewed as an insult.

Exactly.... I'll never understand how some people consider calling one a homosexual is an insult.
