2 wins:
Primetime Emmy Awards 1984 Won Primetime Emmy Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series Pat Harrington Jr. For playing "Dwayne Schneider". Primetime Emmy Awards 1982 Won Primetime Emmy Outstanding Directing in a Comedy Series Alan Rafkin For episode "Barbara's Crisis". That late Pat Harrington win could have been the reason for his end of series spin-off attempt. |

And here's my two cent opinion, as another poster wrote on another thread a great history of Pat Harrington, Jr.
Pat when the series started was the only one that was really known for his TV work, he never headlined a series but his work went back to the 50's and also for a season or two was a regular on "Make Room For Daddy". Bonnie & Val were unknowns and Mack was mainly only known for her "American Graffiti" work. In the 70's Burt Reynolds era, many women considered Pat quite the man candy and he played the comic foil for the entire series run as the character grew in so many ways. Watch his performance in "Off We Go" #208 finale. Since Valerie nixed a spin off, the other attempts were just poor writing/casting. If "Another Man's Shoes" #209 pilot sold to series, the premise was so drasically different, they were just using the "Schnieider" name, it would not have had one other single connection to ODAAT. I suggest as the EMMY'S and other award shows usually do, since the series was done after 9 long years....they award the actor basically for his entire body of work on the series with just one Emmy, like "hey you did a good job!" plus his back to the 50's TV work. |

Pat Harrington was never a "major star". In the 1950's he was on Steve Allen's show, Danny Thomas' show (Make Room for Daddy) and the Jack Paar Show. They were major stars. Harrington wasn't. The last thing I remember seeing seeing Harrington on before ODAAT was as a revolving guest attorney on Owen Marshall in the early 1970's. |

By the series ending only he and Valerie were billed as "starring", and offered spin-off's. I lived it, he was very popular and appeared on game show "Tattletales" among others during the series run. Geez

Watching the Emmys last night, I got to wondering if Michael Lembeck ever won one for his directing career. Some quick research found the answer was yes, for a FRIENDS episode in 1996.

So Pat is still alive at 86 years young! He was not only a tv personality but appeared in film and stage. He has had a very productive life in entertainment and I think his father was an entertainer.
I remember seeing him pop up on a lot of comedy shows way back when and probably was friendly with the Rat Pack as many TV comedians of that era were. He was a game show staple also, again, as many celebs were back then...how many people do we remember as 'squares' on Hollywood Squares before their work on some show? One thing I loved about watching 'Hot in Cleveland', was the fact they brought back a lot of the stars that had at some point worked with each of the gals. He had a part on that show with Valerie Bertinelli. Schneider was annoying at times, but I think his character had its place in the show. I personally liked him when he was Terry's(not the REAL Terry) groom-to-be on 'Make Room for Daddy'....he really was a handsome young man. I was pretty young when those were on, but have seen reruns many, many times. I loved that show.
