Coach on Robert Griffin III: 'There's no coming back. He is done'
July 22, 2015, 3:30 pm
PAUL HUDRICK | CSNPHILLY.COM

In 2012, the Redskins captured the NFC East crown and Robert Griffin III took the NFL by storm.

A nasty ACL tear ended his 2012 season, and RG3 hasn't been the same player since.

ESPN Insider NFL columnist Mike Sando released the newest edition of his "Quarterback Tier" project in which 35 league insiders rate all 32 starting quarterbacks from 1-5 according to their "tier."

Griffin, coming off a season where he went 2-5 in seven starts, was given a 3.91 rating. He finished 28th in the overall ratings, and one offensive coach relegated him to the fifth and lowest tier, which per the story was "reserved for the very worst."

"Five, and there's no coming back. He is done," the offensive coach said. "The reason is, the injury slowed his legs, and his ego will not allow him to hit rock bottom and actually grind his way back up the right way."

Another league source supported the notion.

"To get better in this league, you have to have a degree of humility," a personnel director said. "Griffin sees himself like Peyton [Manning], in that light. When he looks in the mirror, he is seeing things that everybody else is not seeing. That is why I was surprised when they gave him the fifth-year [option] and said it was an easy decision."

On the other hand, one general manager disagreed, pointing out that Griffin is still only 25 and has time to assimilate to a new head coach and system.

"He showed his rookie year that he could be a 1," the GM said. "He is a young guy. I'm going to give him the benefit because of that."

The insiders were a little kinder to Eagles quarterback Sam Bradford and to their former quarterback Nick Foles. Both were ranked in the third tier: Foles ranked 22nd; Bradford tied for 23rd with Vikings second-year quarterback Teddy Bridgewater.

The reports were familiar.

For Bradford it's all about the injuries. Bradford has played in only seven games the last two seasons, tearing his ACL twice. Still, there are those who see promise in the former No. 1 overall pick, especially in Chip Kelly's quarterback-friendly offense where his accuracy could be a huge asset, according to one defensive coordinator. That defensive coordinator also added that he thought Bradford would be an upgrade over Foles and Mark Sanchez.

"There is no quarterback I loved more than him coming out," a head coach said. "I am pulling for him. If he can stay healthy, he can be so accurate. Keep him as a three but only because of the injury factor."

Foles put up video game numbers in 2014, throwing 27 touchdowns and only two interceptions. His passer rating of 119.2 was the highest in the NFL and the third highest in league history. After a shaky 2014 season, the question is whether his 2013 season was a glimpse at his ability or a product of Kelly's offense.

"I think in that Chip Kelly system, once he figured it out, he operated it and did a great job early on," a personnel director said. "But I do not think he is talented [enough] where he will be that way year in and year out, or week in and week out. He is a little stiff in the pocket. I don't think he has great arm strength. He has pretty good accuracy. I don't know that he sees everything."

One personnel director said Foles is "a 'solid three' who should upgrade the situation in St. Louis." The same St. Louis team that spent the first overall pick on Bradford to be their franchise quarterback back in 2010.

I understand, but be careful on whatever it says there. The decision about RG3 may or may not be finalized yet, so jump too forward on conclusions yet.

Robert Griffin may be gone after this season because he's the 3rd string quarterback and I know he isn't happy about that. Colt McCoy is ahead of him. Washington Redskins are gonna have another losing season hahahahahahahahahahaha. They looked pitiful yesterday against Miami and they lost 17-10 at home. I know the Redskins fans were mad. Their offense sucks. They'll be lucky if they win 3 games LOL.

If Robert is gone after this season ends, then Dan Snyder will be blamed and fell too guilty for being too supportive on RG3.

Isiahthomas, some of the Redskins already know what's wrong with Dan Snyder. Dan Snyder is more of a business type of owner rather than a real NFL team owner. The whole NFL public also noticed what's wrong with Dan Snyder too, especially knowing about Dan being too supportive on RG3.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. I never listen to what you say because you always rambling and not making sense. Dan Snyder won't be at fault for Robert Griffin leaving. Robert will have himself to blame for the reason he's not on the team anymore. He's not that good and he gets hurt too much. He also runs his mouth to the media and says stupid stuff when he needs to shut his mouth and let his performance on the field do the talking. He's already pissed off his coach for not playing well and I'm sure some of his teammates don't like him because he's cocky and arrogant.

Good ahead an laugh at my rambling as much as you want, isiahthomas. Your laugh will NEVER continuously impress me at all and my way of rambling DOESN'T even exist at all.

The NFL still blamed Dan Snyder for being too supportive on RG3 and now Dan Snyder has been forced to lower down his supportage on RG3, even if RG3 leaves or not. It's not RG3's fault, it's Dan fault, as officially confirmed by the entire NFL public.

Well it looks like Robert Griffin may be done because Kirk Cousins looked good yesterday against the Eagles and the Redskins won. I think Kirk is a better passer than Robert. I'll see what Kirk does against Atlanta this week because they're playing in Atlanta. Atlanta will win because Atlanta has been playing very good. I don't think they've lost a game yet.

and that they did

On a Very Special Note, the Falcons have not only cleaned house on the Lone Star State of Texas, but they've also once again cleaned house on the NFC East

They did it in 2012 and they did it again, in 2015

also, the Falcons have won 5 straight games against the Redskins since 2006 which was the Final Season of the Michael Vick Era

Here's what the scores were in 2012:

Falcons def. the Redskins in D.C. 24-17 when Thomas DeCoud had the Game Winning Interception to Seal the Deal

Falcons def. the Eagles in Philly 30-17

Falcons def. the Cowboys in Atlanta 19-13 on NBC SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL

Falcons SHUTOUT the GIANTS 24-0

Here's what the scores are in 2015:

Falcons def. the Eagles in Atlanta 26-24 on ESPN MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL when Ricardo Allen had the Game Winning Interception to get their 8th straight home opening win

Falcons SLAYED the GIANTS in New York City 24-20

Falcons def. the Cowboys in Dallas 39-28

Falcons def. the Redskins in Atlanta in OT 25-19 when Kirk Cousins threw the Game Winning Pick 6 to Robert Alford

also, in the Matt Ryan Era, the Falcons are 4-0 over the Redskins

Falcons def. the Redskins in Atlanta 31-17 in 2009 and 27-26 in 2013

The Redskins could've beat Atlanta but Kirk Cousins ******** ass threw a interception at the end hahahahahahahahahahahaha. The Redskins might not win another game hahahahahahahahahahahaha. Their coach Jay Gruden is gonna have to change quarterbacks and put Robert Griffin in there because Kirk sucks. If Jay doesn't make a change, he might get fired.

Exactly, I mean my team the Falcons could've been 2-4, but they find ways to win and that's what I like about them

The Eagles lost the game b/c of a missed Field Goal and Sam Braford throwing the Interception to seal the win for the Falcons

The GIANTS could've been 5-1, but they gave the game away to the Cowboys and then the Next Week, lost a Home Opener to the Falcons when Eli Manning made HUGE Mistakes

The Cowboys could've def. the Falcons and the Saints, but once again, too many bad decisions by Brandon Weeden and the Defense

The Redskins could've defeated the Falcons as well, but Kirk Cousins is an idiot for throw the Interception which lead to a Game Winning Pick 6

as I said before, the Falcons w/Matt Ryan as their Quarterback has OWNED the Redskins since joining the team in 2008 and in 2009, got his 1st win against the Redskins

Plus, they have won 5 straight games since the last year for Michael Vick

Atlanta lost pretty bad to the Saints a few weeks ago to get their first loss. Who is Atlanta playing tomorrow? The Redskins are playing Tampa Bay and the Redskins are gonna lose hahahahahahahahahaha.
