Eek Soda/Snack Vending Machines Now Take Credit Cards

I'm not sure how long ago they started this, but vending machines/soda machines now take credit cards.

I can't imagine using my debit card for those. That information would be stored and easily accessed. Sure, it might be nice if you don't happen to have cash on you. I will stick to cash for things like that.

Cool

This makes me think vending machine prices must be getting very expensive!! I wouldn't feel safe using my debit card in a vending machine either.

Thumbs up

Some have for awhile...I wish all do now since I use a bank card more than I do cash.

We have two at work. People are fussing that it charges ten cents for the use of the card. I personally think it's a bogus idea to "go plastic" on a simple candy and pop machine just for snacks, especially when you don't know how safe the transaction is.

I'm in favor of things like this, just for the sake of convenience. There's just as likely a chance of fraud occurring anywhere else someone might use their card. I am glad when I see parking meters and garages that take cards. If I have cash on me, I rarely have small bills, and I would trust swiping my card over putting a twenty in a machine any day.

Nah, not for me! I'll stick with cash for such a small purchase like that. Not worth the risk of someone getting my credit card or banking information!

I don't blame you for not wanting to use a debit card. But a credit card is another story as you have MUCH BETTER protection.

I guess its the sign of the times. For me having to fumble with a credit card would somewhat make me think, Am I buying healthy food? Two I generally like small purchases with Cash. Three, I don't want my info furnished to the machine company. Four, isn't there a fee to the company when they take cards. 3% on every dollar purchase.? There is a lot good in cash. It is anonymous. I think you should have the option. Give me another 30 years when all the glitches hopefully are fixed and by then I will be dead, one can go all the way with cards.

That sounds awesome which means I dont have to borrow money for coworkers since I don't like carrying cash around with me

Credit Card vending machines have been around for a few years now. They started using them at Rest Areas along the highways. I was told that people were starting to be in fear of using cash at a roadside rest area because of safety issues, fear of being robbed, which especially applies to night time visitors, and in some rest areas that are not lit as well, and may be deserted.

In any case, I am sure the rest areas see the credit card idea as a way of making more money, as less and less people are carrying cash nowadays. Infact, I pass up on buying at any vending machine that doesn't take a credit card because I don't carry cash anymore, unless I have to.

I wonder is it A safety concern or a less hassle for the vending machine collector ( no one needs to collect the coins/dollars to count). As for safety one can get bop someone over the head and grab the card. Yes if maybe be harder to get the money but now you are out the card. I tend to think it less hassle to count the money.

Yes, there is a fee to the merchant for accepting cards. However, if it is someone with a high volume of sales, the fee can be negotiated to way below 3%.
