What was Granny doing on Mr. Ed the other day? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Last Sat. I was watching Mr. Ed when I saw Granny Clampett show up. Irene Ryan was dressed in character as Granny and had a few lines, but nobody else was with her and her name was never mentioned...I guess it was kind of a cameo appearance...

Yeah . It was cool huh? I saw that ep a few times, first time I was like . Wow, what is Granny doing on here. LOL!

They must have filmed at the same studio lot and she just had a walk on or like you said a Cameo appearance.

Mr. Ed and The Beverly Hillbillies were both produced by same company and were both filmed at General Service Studios. Same goes for Petticoat Junction and Green Acres.

TBH was a far more popular show than Mr. Ed so I'm sure this little in-character cameo, incongruous as it seemed, was publicized at the time and done to boost Mr. Ed's ratings although surely critter lovin' Elly May would have been a more appropriate appearance (although Donna Douglas did guest star pre-TBH on the show as Clint Eastwood's girlfriend in his famous appearance on the series.)
