Default Stupid racists on UM

Perhaps its just coincidence, but a lot of the UM segments I've watched lately have featured a lot of really racist people. So I thought we should put together a list of idiotic racist people on UM.

Pretty much all of Oscar Norton's relatives ~ Black lady calls white woman Bonnie Potter to tell her that they're sisters and wants to meet, and Bonnie gets all "Am I speaking with a black woman?" Jeez. Talk about throwing the subtlety card right out the window. Puzzled, she replies "Why yes you are", to which Bonnie retorts "Do you know you're speaking with a white woman?" I have no words. Bonnie spends the rest of the conversation basically telling her she's a loony because there was no way they could be related (except they were, and really how stupid is Bonnie for not knowing "Nellie" is a nickname of Elanor?) Bonnie gets even stupider for not bothering to take a name or a phone number, but then immediately calls her other sister afterward, probably to say "Hey, I just heard from some crazy black lady that says we're related. Oh, we are?!".

But that's just the tip of the iceberg. It's revealed that the entire rest of the family knew about it for 8 years, but it was kept secret at the behest of a racist male relative who thought he was still living in the 1950's. And then there's his conversation with Oscar, which took place in a bar with other people all around.

Oscar: "She was black."
relative: "What?!"
Oscar: "We had a baby together."
relative: "I think I'm going to need another drink."

And the segment ends with Bonnie's white sister basically admitting "We all used to be a bunch of racists, but we've gotten over that now." Well thanks for marching bravely in to modern times lady!

Pretty much all of the white people in the Black Hope Curse segment ~ Watch as a bunch of crazies accuse *deceased* black slaves of everything from theft and harassment all the way to MURDER!!

Because some old woman decided that she was going to disrupt somebody's eternal sleep and peace by digging up their grave, then finally realized all that physical activity wasn't good for someone her age, so her granddaughter takes over, who is no shape either, and she succumbs after a period of intense digging, then it gets blamed on the GHOST!!!

And the part about them hearing murmured voices when they flushed the toilet was so stupid I almost laughed if the whole rest of the segment hadn't been so sad.

Pretty much all of the people in the country and western bar in the Don Smith segment ~ Try not to stare at the only black person in the bar. Jesus. A black guy can be country and western. Haven't they ever heard of Charley Pride?

Pretty much all of the white people in the Andre Jones segment ~ Racists who are put into positions of power is a scary thing.

Malaika Griffin ~ Evil, crazy-ass stupid bitch. I'm willing to bet that stupid smile she flashes in her picture is now a frown.

I saw that Oscar Norton segment for the first time in a long time, possibly ever? I thought it was odd.

My first thought though when I saw this thread title was the old guy in the Dennis Walker segment who said he didn't want the state getting their "cotton picking" hands on Walker's stuff. I remember this statement was brought up in the past, perhaps by kadrmas, and there was a lot of debate about whether the statement was racist or not.

Joseph M.L. Gardener ~ this was a quicky FBI alert or something. It wasn't mentioned in the segment, but it was his "New Year's Resolution" to kill a white woman, which he did. I just read some of the details of what he did to his victim, Missy McLauchlin, and they are so horrifying I don't feel comfortable repeating them here. Thankfully, he was given the death penalty and executed in 2008.

The lunatic who ran those four kids off the road-just because they were black.

Somehow I doubt that was her choice of descriptive word during this conversation.

The eyewitness in the Andy Cook killings. Cook looked nothing like a "light skinned black male". He had a dirty blonde mullet & blue eyes. How he saw a black guy was beyond me. Seemed a tad racist imo.

Possibly-but eye witness testimony is incredibly unreliable. I don't remember the case off the top of my head but the person may have seen a black person just before or at the time & confused the two later on. If you have 20 eyewitness reports to a crime you can easily get between 10-20 different stories/descriptions.

They might of been driving similar looking cars with the same color on the same road. This witness may of lied that he saw an African American man driving the car when it was really the killer.

True, but the eyewitness stated that the driver of the Honda CRX looked right at him & gave him a dirty look or something to that effect. Just happy the case was solved & Cook paid for his crimes.

Oh yes, I remember that. I was the one who first brought it up as it's absolutely a racist thing to say, which kadrmas of course disagreed with.

That old guy also condoned Walker stealing all that cool memorabilia, so he struck me as something of a jerk-ass.

In the Black Hope Curse segment they in multiple occasions say they wanted to give the former slaves a proper grave. And that they were horrified when they found out they were living on top of a former slave cemetery. Whether you believe the garbage they are spewing is one thing. And as much as I love Unsolved Mysteries. Sometimes they aren't the best fact checkers. Regardless of that. If these people did go through a traumatic experience. Regardless of the nature of it. Its rather stupid to call them racist. I saw nothing that would give that impression.
