I've been watching a lot of true crime shows lately. I've noticed that the narrator, more often than not, will say that the neighborhood was so nice that folks never locked their doors. I lock my doors both day and night, and I live in a pretty nice area. I can't sleep if our alarm system's not on. How about you?

I wish "most of the time" was an option. If someone else is home and I'm just dashing out on a quick errand, I will leave a door unlocked. Three large dogs are a pretty good deterrent. I couldn't sleep if a door was left unlocked overnight, though. I've ripped my husband a new one a few times over leaving a door unlocked overnight.
I used to have a burglar alarm, but I had it disconnected years ago due to the expense and the fact we never set it. I'm fortunate to live in a nice neighborhood in a fairly well to do community, but there still have been a few minor (mostly auto) break ins. |

We keep our doors locked all the time. For the last few years there have been several break-ins in our area. They used to happen mainly at night but lately the thieves are getting bolder and breaking in in broad daylight. And to top that off the culprits are some of our neighbor's kids! It's so disheartening. We had a safe neighborhood when my kids were growing up in the 70's and 80's. It makes me so furious!
We even lock our doors while we are outside doing yard work . While mowing the lawn anybody could just walk in without our knowing it. I never even considered that before! It's a sad thing

Absolutely. All the time. Even though it's a good area, I just cannot trust people enough.

You have to these days, next to baseball thievery is a favorite pastime around here. Sometimes when I'm leaving my house I will yell " Be back in a few " before I shut and lock my door in case someone is watching. That way they'll think somebody is still home. I really get mad at myself when I wake up in the morning and discover that I forgot to lock my door.

We lock them when we're sleeping, taking a bath or when we leave to go somewhere. My sister-in-law came in once when I was vacuuming and scared me pretty good so now I lock them when I run the vacuum cleaner.

We have a sign that says the house is protected by a security system. So far so good, usually someone is home except when we are not.

As Janice was posting in her original post, about True crime TV, I watch a lot of that too. ID TV !!! After watching that some of the stuff that goes on really will open your eyes, meaning bad things can happen and bad people can be anywhere!!! Way better safe than sorry. I STRONGLY suggest locking doors at all time even if you are home no matter WHERE you live! I mean Gosh somebody litterly could come in and murder , beat you Brutally rape you, rob you or kidnap you! Really! I'm not being paranoid or negative, but like I said I watch a lot of ID TV!!! Horrible things happen!!!!!

I might lock the doors if I lived in a Million dollar home. I have a gun but it makes such a loud BANG it scares the neighbors dogs.
