Newhart vs. The Bob Newhart Show

Which one would you say was better?
Which character in your opinion was Bob Newhart better as?
Which one do you think would be around longer?

I liked Newhart better. I think Bob played both roles very well but the Newhart role edges out The Bob Newhart show character. And I think Newhart would be around longer. Can you tell I like Newhart?

The shows are different, but to me, Bob Hartley and Dick Loudon are practically the same character. I don't see a real difference. However, Bob McKay, Newhart's character on the 1990s "Bob" series, was different -- much less mellow than his predecessors.

I was wondering if anyone would bring up "Bob". I liked it the most. It was the most offbeat.

Both are good, but I think Bob Hartley was a bit edgier as a character, with his occasional sarcasm toward his wife and his inability to express his feelings. Also, Bob Hartley had a sexier wife (this is nothing against Mary Frann; there are just few TV wives sexier than Pleshette).

HA HA! My husband would agree with you! He has always been in love with Suzanne! But I still think Dick Loudon was funnier! He had that whole stupid town to put up with! Wonder how Bob Hartley would have handled that?

Slightly off-topic, but did you all knew that earlier this year, Suzanne Pleshette (Emily on "Bob Newhart") in real life married Tom Poston (George on "Newhart")? I keep wondering when Stephanie Vanderkellen is going to marry Howard Borden.
