Me-TV just reran "The Liberation of Marcia Brady", and I was really surprised when after the last commercial, there were just the closing credits. I even pulled out my DVD Season 2 set after to verify that this episode had a tag, and it did, and I'd seen it before (Peter & Alice in the kitchen). Had anyone seen this episode tag-less on Me-TV before tonight? Usually Me-TV is the only place where full episodes are broadcast without cuts (though they may be sped up a bit), so this surprised me.
This episode brought up another thought based on a book of mine from the 80s, Television Comedy Series. This was one of the first books to present full episode lists and plot summaries from several past sitcoms, long-running and not, though no breakout by season or original air dates. This book stated that "The Liberation of Marcia Brady" was not syndicated in some markets because of its "stereotyping of women". I'd never seen this one skipped in any market where I watched it, at least since I've been aware of the plot of this episode. This same book also misses on the plot of "Will the Real Jan Brady" [sic], giving the plot as "Jan becomes a saleswoman and causes problems for the family". That's not what happened, though one could argue that's what Bobby did in the series finale.

Sounds to me like Me-TV is declining into just another one of those run of the mill retro TV stations. Showing edited episodes, reducing the picture size, messing with the opening and end credits, etc. I remember when they first went on the air about 10 years ago, they would run shows uncut, full screen, with opening/closing credits and all. Sadly, looks like those days are now a thing of the past. I seldom watch retro TV stations now because of all the crap they do to mess with the shows.

To Me-TV's credit, that was the only episode aired w/o its tag Friday night, and all episodes aired w/ tag on Sunday, so this was a rare occurrence, not a regular thing, at least so far.

Please tell me that ME TV is not credit crunching or doing split-screens for The Brady Bunch end credits! They have done a good job with minimal editing for the most part and no split-screens or credit crunches. Season 4 of The Brady Bunch does run approximately 25:30 to 26:00 on most DVD episodes, so for that season, and only for that season you might get one-minute gone or some time compression. Compare that to other syndicated prints of The Brady Bunch where as much as four minutes is gone from each episode. Other seasons come in about 25:00 minutes uncut. Viewers should contact ME TV about this issue. Praise them for the minimal editing that they have accomplished. and viewers can address their concerns here. I love ME TV and hope that it does not become another TV land! Here is their website: http://metvnetwork.com/ Jack |

Peter's complimenting Alice about how good the cookies he's eating are. She says that neither she nor Carol made them, "We bought them from you." Than Peter says, "On Second thought, they're not too good!" This is the classic episode with Peter joining Marcia's Sunflower Girls club and his memorable humiliating cookie selling speech! (In the girl's uniform! OK, minus the skirt!) hahahaha! Jack |
