Default The Argument with Ed and Ann in the episode of Barbara's Wedding

Who you think started the argument with Ann and Ed? I think Ann started it when she went there by telling Ed to let it go and don't start anything. She was looking for an argument with Ed.

Ann was being her usual shrew self when it came to Ed. She's always looking to pick a fight with poor Ed. She said something like "Be nice... FOR A CHANGE..." Stupid bitch! I felt bad for Ed.

I did too but Ed was giving it back to her especially when he said, "You missed your calling you should have a class on giving snide remarks." I screamed when he said that. I have used that line on people.

LOL!! She was fighting with Ed on the phone in the ep before that too! Remember when Grandma was palm reading and said Ann will fight with somebody in the future. I thought Oh poor Ed. it would have to be him on the phone , she seems to like to fight with him!

Why was she always so rough with Ed?

I never understood Ann's animus towards him...

If anything HE should have been the one angry with her for uprooting their kids so she could "find herself".

Why marry him in the first place if she wasn't knocked up? She could have gone to college and gotten in the work force if she was so independent.

It seemed like she blamed all of her problems on this man who was just trying his best to be a good provider and father to the girls. They should have resented HER for breaking up the family but the writers never wanted to paint her as being anything but cool and liberated in regard to the breakup of their union. There should have been some resentment toward her for taking their father away. In Dad Comes Back he got all the flack and Ann got to be the big hero by singing his praises in response. But if he was such a good father, why leave him in the first place? She could have waited until they were out of high school.

Thoughts???

ETA. Alex got to throw a plant at her and questioned her parenting and Max got a shot in or two about her actions when Julie dumped him but the girls remained relatively mum with their feelings except for Babs at the end of the plant episode which I thought was one of the most quietly powerful moments ever on the show.

Typing quickly. Have to feed my mother...

I wonder why she was so argumentative with men in particular? Her father was controlling to be sure but they seemed to get along famously.

I guess she just got caught up in the women's lib movement or something.

Yeah this line from Delta Dawn could be written about me!! Wondering around aimlessly with a suitcase waiting for Michael to come and fall in love with me and take me away from it all!

All the folks around Brownsville say she's crazy
'Cause she walks downtown with a suitcase in her hand
Lookin' for a mysterious dark-haired man

They should have added the lines "With a happy trail for her to unveil!".

Ed always started the fights. Wasn't Ann's fault at all.
