I Love the 80s!

Various major retailers, including Amazon and Walmart, are pulling all Confederate flag merchandise, in response to the shootings in Charleston, South Carolina.
Having not grown up in the south, I don't have a close connection to the flag and its significance (but I do know what it stands for, and understand the opposition). So... what does this (potentially) do to the General Lee, and the Dukes of Hazard? It's not like the show is a prime-time staple any more, but there is still love for the old orange Dodge... It will be interesting to see if anyone brings this point up in the future. |

You bring up a good point, jayman. Even though I've always only lived in the South, I'm not particularly partial to the Confederate flag though it is part of our country's history and I think it is ridiculous and possibly illegal to ban this flag. The problem with our society today is that we are waaaaay too politically correct in seemingly all aspects of life. I thought the libs used to preach individual thought and ideas but nowadays, if anyone dares to think for himself and those thoughts go against the grain of political correctness, then he is roundly criticized at best. Our country is in a whole heap of trouble......

The actors from the show make personal appearances each year and the General Lee is often there as well. Lots of people have enjoyed getting their photo taken standing beside the car. If the flag is banned, how will it effect things in this case?

Why anyone would want to salute a confederate flag over an American flag is crazy. |

I live in the south and have seen confederate flags all my life. Most of the Battlefields here display them. It's just considered another part of history. And most people who do have them associate it with being a rebel not a racist. But I understand how it can rub some people the wrong way.

I think the southern states should get rid of the confederate flag and put them in museums as past history. The confederate flag is offensive to the african americans as the swastika flag is to the jewish people.
