Default Banning the Confederate Flag - The Future of TDoH

Various major retailers, including Amazon and Walmart, are pulling all Confederate flag merchandise, in response to the shootings in Charleston, South Carolina.

Having not grown up in the south, I don't have a close connection to the flag and its significance (but I do know what it stands for, and understand the opposition).

So... what does this (potentially) do to the General Lee, and the Dukes of Hazard? It's not like the show is a prime-time staple any more, but there is still love for the old orange Dodge...

It will be interesting to see if anyone brings this point up in the future.

You bring up a good point, jayman. Even though I've always only lived in the South, I'm not particularly partial to the Confederate flag though it is part of our country's history and I think it is ridiculous and possibly illegal to ban this flag. The problem with our society today is that we are waaaaay too politically correct in seemingly all aspects of life. I thought the libs used to preach individual thought and ideas but nowadays, if anyone dares to think for himself and those thoughts go against the grain of political correctness, then he is roundly criticized at best. Our country is in a whole heap of trouble......

The Confederate flag is treasonous. It was made by traitors for traitors.

It is not a case of PC vs. UN-PC; it is a fact.

Question

The actors from the show make personal appearances each year and the General Lee is often there as well. Lots of people have enjoyed getting their photo taken standing beside the car. If the flag is banned, how will it effect things in this case?

You're right. The confederate flag represents LOSERS. That flag is Un-American, and it is just as hateful as the swastika.

Why anyone would want to salute a confederate flag over an American flag is crazy.

I live in the south and have seen confederate flags all my life. Most of the Battlefields here display them. It's just considered another part of history. And most people who do have them associate it with being a rebel not a racist. But I understand how it can rub some people the wrong way.

I think the southern states should get rid of the confederate flag and put them in museums as past history. The confederate flag is offensive to the african americans as the swastika flag is to the jewish people.

You might want to brush up on U.S. history. It is an absolute 100% fact that the confederates wanted to PRESERVE SLAVERY, so please explain how the confederate flag is not a symbol of racism.

I'm referring to the way most people around my area today view the confederate flag. They view it as being associated with a rebel not a racist. I wasn't condoning slavery, it's a part of history just like the Spanish American War, The Revolutionary War, the Vietnam War and all other wars are a part of our history whether we agree with those wars or not.

Doesn't matter. You can't cry ignorance. Fact remains that the confederates strived to uphold slavery.

I've lived in Georgia all my life and you pretty much summed up what I was going to say.

Yep. I lived in NC for over 20 years and that's the way it was down there too.

Now knowing that that the confederates stood to preserve slavery, what do you say? Or do you want to continue using historical ignorance as an excuse to defend a flag that represents the losers of the civil war?

Hey I wasn't born there. I was born in Maryland and my state fought for the North. I hated NC but i did grow up there and I know how they think. To them it isn't about being racist. They believe it's their heritage.
