Pee-wee's Playhouse Regular Gilbert Lewis Has Died, Aged 79.
Link The veteran character actor passed away on 7 May (15) in his native Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was best known for playing the King of Cartoons in the first season of the cult children's show. When production moved from New York to Los Angeles in 1987, Lewis was replaced by actor William Marshall. Pee-Wee Herman, real name Paul Reubens, took to his website to pay tribute to his former co-star, writing, "He was a terrific actor and wonderful man - very nice and very serious about acting. I liked him very much. Sending my love to his family and friends." Lewis also appeared in such films as The Pursuit of Happiness, Candyman, Don Juan DeMarco, and Body and Soul, while his other TV credits include Spenser: For Hire, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Cheers and Law & Order. |
