Default The Excellence of the Wonder Years

I recently binge watched the whole series again for the first time in 20 years and was compelled to write a loving tribute to the show.

Who was your favorite character? Episode? Were you surprised Kevin and Winnie ended up apart? Did you watch with your baby boomer parents? Can you appreciate the wholesome sitcom in an era populated by ever more titillating TV fare?

I was surprised to see this was on the air head to head with Unsolved Mysteries. I have no idea how I picked between them.

I have 3 episodes to go till I'm done with the whole series.
My fave characters were Kevin, Winnie, and Norma. But I do love all the characters. My parents weren't really into the show, however my brother and myself got them to watch it with us. Being that we only had one tv at this time.

I love that the show remained wholesome during the time of more titillating tv shows. It still remains one of my top 20 shows of all time.

I've watched the whole series a few times and my favorites are Kevin, Winnie, and Paul. I was kinda surprised that Kevin and Winnie didn't end up together, but not completely. I wanted them to end up together, but the way they always got together, then broke up I wasn't sure they'd end up together. I always loved the ending to the episode where Winnie got in a wreck and broke her leg and Kevin looks in her window and whispers I love you and she whispers I love you too. That was so sweet and how Kevin found out she was in a wreck and just ran to her to make sure she was ok. Showed how much they loved each other...no matter what they went through or how many times they broke up they always loved and cared about each other....they may not have always been in love but they always loved and cared for one another and this episode really shows that.
I also always liked the episode where Kevin tries to call that girl on the phone and keeps freaking out and not calling her. Reminds me of myself and is totally something I'd have done in that situation at his age. Though I was always too chicken to even attempt to call a boy at that age.
Also like the episode where Kevin and Winnie get back together at the dance. They walk across the room to each other and dance then go sit on the hill and talk.
Also really liked the Christmas episode where they try to get their dad to buy the TV. They all get mad at each other and kinda argue over the TV, but then they get caught in the rain and the dad laughs and they all kinda get back together laughing and then go home and have fun together. Then Kevin said he learned it's more about the memories you make than the gifts and that sometimes all you can do is wish each other well and good luck (which he learned from Winnie giving him the 4 leaf clover as a gift). That was really nice.

Just about every episode has me teary eyed by the end of it no matter how many times I see them. It's a sweet, wholesome, touching show.
