I seem to recall Sam's ex-wife making a brief appearance on Cheers. I remember Carla announcing who she was. Does anyone recall this or have I lost it?
If anyone does remember, I'd love to know why she was there as well. Thanks.

Yes, it was the episode where he was trying to convince Diane that he was going out with other women, but then Carla said something about it being Sam's ex wife. I think it was a little odd that they didn't make a bigger deal out of it.

Thanks so much Must See TV and DianeC. Here's what my foggy memory is telling me. He was trying to make Diane think he was dating a smart, cultured woman because she said he could only get bimbos. They come in Cheers after the theater with a Playbill talking about how great the play was. As they're leaving, Diane notices the Playbill is years old.
Is this the episode? Sorry, this is driving me nuts.

Yes, she was played by Donna McKechnie... who some may know from Broadway's "A Chorus Line" in the 1970s???

Donna played Sam's ex-wife Debra in the second episode of the series (the first to be filmed after the pilot). I agree that it's strange that we never heard from her or saw her again, since it was obvious from that episode that Debra and Sam were on good terms.

Was the reason for Sam's divorce ever addressed on the show? Was it a long-term marriage? I suspect his marriage was a casuality of his alcoholism, as was his baseball career--but I'm just speculating.
Anyone know? |

hey guys, yeah i definitlly agree with ya all the way about sams ex wife debra,She,s an importent character and way more nesessary
definitlly even defintlly more importent to the show cheers and sams history and past,I WAS REALLY MAD WHEN THEY ALL ALMOST ENTIRELLY COMPLETLLY LEFT HER OUT OF THE SHOW,DID THEY FORGET SHE WAS SAMS EX WIFE AND WE ONLY SAW HER FOR ABOUT 4 OR 5 MINUTES IN SAMS WOMEN WHICH AIRED ON OCTOBER 6TH 1982.BUT I THOUGHT THE WOMEN WHO PLAYED HER WAS EXCELLENT IN HER SMALLER BUT EXTREMLLY IMPORTENT ROLE DEFINTILLY,I GUESS EXTREMLLY IS TAKING IT TO FAR BUT VERY IMPORTENT ROLE,and also SAM AND DEBRA DIVORCED BECAUSE OF SAMS DRINKING PROBLAM,and that it cost him his marriage,It was well he was explaining it to woody in young dr wenstin, well i hope it helps,LOL thanks |

That must explain a strange and puzzling line (for me at least) from a recent episode that aired on N&N. Sam was trying convince Woody and Coach's niece not to marry and he mentioned something about having had a failed marriage when he was young. Diane looked upset (as if she didn't knew that) but suprisingly nothing more was said about it. I wondered what he meant by that; he must talking about Debra (how many exwifes does he has?)
