I'd have to say I liked Goober more than Gomer. I guess it was Gomer's voice that really is the deciding vote in this poll. They both were very different characters, and its hard to believe they are related! I believe Goober was in the show longer than Gomer, too. So, it's Goober over Gomer, but its pretty close between the two.

Default Okay, my explanation makes no sense- but here goes

On TAGS, I liked Gomer better. When Gomer got his own show- I still liked him, but then Gomer's series became the Showoff Jim's Voice-and those were the episodes of USMC that I tend to rank as my least fave.

I like Goober too. During the color episodes and after the departure of Otis, the Darlings, Floyd, and of course Barney the only funny man that Mayberry had was Goober.

Did you know that George Lindsey was originally given the role prior to the series, but Andy Griffith saw Jim Neighbors in a Night Club performing, and he knew that he had to have Jim Neighbors in the role of Gomer Pyle.

George Lindsey was angry with Jim Neighbors for a long time for stealing that role, but they are now able to look back at the incident and joke about it.

I had heard about George being cast before Jim, but even to this day I can't imagine George being Gomer. Jim was meant for the Gomer role, and George was meant to have the Goober role. I'm glad George didn't hold a grude with Jim about snatching the role. It shows that he's a good person to not hold a grudge.

Actually, he did hold a grudge for a long time.

But with all things, time seems to heal all wounds.

I like them both. The two seasons Jim Nabors was on the Griffith show he appeared in some superb episodes. Overall I think the Gomer character was sweeter and more childlike than Goober. I do agree though that after the departure of Don Knotts the only authentically funny character left was Goober and George Lindsey did a good job. I particularly like the episode where he attended a history class and was shy but when he grew a beard and took on a more intellectual look he became a know it all and everyone tried to avoid him. I can't remember the title to that episode, sorry.

I love Gomer Pyle soooo much!!! I've had a huge crush on him since I first saw him on Andy Griffith, well maybe it was on gomer... who knows. Anyway, he's so sweet and kind and innocent. "Citizens Arrest" and the one where Andy saves Gomer are some of my fave eps w/Gomer in them. I thought the ep where Gomer sang The Impossible Dream was a nice one, but I liked the one with the hippie van best. He sang in it, but it wasn't the focus of the episode. Hope they'll bring it back to tvland soon!

I couldnt stand either of them!! Ahh..they annoyed me so much! lol. But thats just my opinion. They bug me, but I dont think they ruined the show. They were so goofy they made me laugh sometimes, but Im more for Barney! lol

Default Goober!

It is so funny I just found this poll because I JUST posted on another board that I have run into Goober several times this year since we live only about three miles away from him. He is so nice and remembers both my brother and me everytime we meet, so that has made him a favorite character for me. He is a real nice man in person so I vote for Goober!

Any Jami Farr fans might be interested in "A MUSICAL CHRISTMAS CAROL" - when Christian Activities reviewed Jami Farr's appearance in "A Christmas Carol" when it ran in Nashville in 2000. They are running it again as a look at Christmas past!
