"A Metallica fan is a fan for life"--though most fans are thoroughly disappointed with their 90's/2000's output. Their 1980's Cliff Burton era will always stand the test of time.

I think metal, in all its forms, is timeless. Even the 80's "hair metal," when heard and not seen, still sounds fresh and undated. Plus a lot of it is just good music and you don't get tired of listening to it. I'm a 39 year-old biracial female, and I would rather listen to Ozzy, Metallica, Judas Priest and Guns N Roses instead of Beyonce, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj and most of today's hip-hop and pop. It gets me going and puts me in a good mood.

I got into heavy metal like all teenagers do at around the 10th grade, it was a sense of rebelliousness and just hearing the screechiness of the guitars made the songs so great.

This was around the early 90's when all pop songs were by Mariah Carey and Paula Abdul and stupid grunge music was hitting mainstream.

What is it about rap and hip-hop that just doesn't grab us?? Oh yeah, the lack of melody, song structure, and FREAKING LOUD GUITARS AND ACTUAL SINGING AT THE TOP OF ONE'S LUNGS!!!!

I think though, that even though hair metal was over-the-top visually, it added a dimension to loud metal and hard rawk. The music was loud, the clothes and the big hair had to be LOUD, if you will. Of course it got pretty predictable by the end of the 80's.
