The best scene cut from last night's Small Wonder episode

The cut out the scene that shows how angry Barbara was over getting the bad grade. She was acting crazy and slamming doors and none of that was shown. She has never acted like that so I am upset that it is not shown in the syndicated episode. She acted like Julie for the first few minutes.

I believe you are an original viewer like myself, I have several versions of the episode. I was was wondering where did the scene you described happen in the episode? As where the usual first 4 minutes was not chopped, you can tell when the secondary opening credits appear during the first scene. She was totally sad and embarrassed about her bad grades, went right into explaining she had a tutor and negotiated price with Ann. Then Ted arrived, they bonded, the correct center commercial break was intact, Ted askes Barbara out, she smiles, applause, fade to black.

Now yes these are 22 minute versions, but I have the schneider scene cut giving Ted dating advice, not knowing it was Barbara being discussed.

As for not ever seeing Barbara ever acting that way, in "Endless Elliot" she is clearly mad and wait till she marries the not good enough for her "Mark" character (Boyd Gaines), who acted highly supierior to her and didn't even call her as promised for days after she found out she couldn't conceive. It took him 2 days to decide to stay with her? Let alone on the morning of their wedding day, He chooses Golf over preparations!

The "Mark" character was written & portrayed as a total ass. Oddly he & his series father "Sam", portrayed by Howard Hessman (Eventually Ann's husband) were the only cast members not even mentioned or seen in any clips in the 2/05 CBS reunion special. I heard Valerie did not get along with Mr. Gaines personally and professionally. Hence the season 9 episode written for her "The Nearness of You" where Barbara falls for Max!

I just really want to know where the part was acted & placed in the script you said was edited for minutes from the original aired episode? Curious?

She actually pulls it off in her own way. Ann actually makes fun of her for the sad attempt at anger.

Barbara is too cute to pull it off like Julie did.

Barbara never blew her stack in "Endless Elliot" though. She was mad but never went as far as slamming doors and attempting to make a ruckus.

The only 2 episodes that come to mind when Barbara was truly angry was "Teacher's Pet" from season 6 when she slapped her professor for making a pass at her and the ever emotional "Baby Love" episode where she starts a fight with Max over the bed time of his son. Her and Sam also attempt to adopt a child in this episode.

The episodes about Barbara and her fertility problems (Barbara's Crisis and Baby Love) always brought about a rage in her character that we did not normally see.

I am being serious, you didn't answer my question, with total respect please read revised post #2 again....if the clip you are discussing was at beginning before the one executive producers credit shown, the scene you are mentioning hardly would be the best in my humble opinion as it could have only lasted 5 seconds at best.

Respectfully I asked where was it in episode?, not for other opinion examples of Barbara getting mad, or the seems obsession of some posters enjoying "slapping scenes", a standard in Normal Lear sitcoms & 70's TV.

You know me Josh, (we have mutual interests) as I'm not into rehashing plot lines or script writers ideas. I like to delve into the production, character & series development. Sadly most of my historical threads or posts go without any serious contribution if anything. I have already mentioned in my "ODAAT" Info thread I contributed & was credited as part of the "ODAAT" section in the 2007 McFarland published "The Sitcoms Of Norman Lear" by Sean Campbell.

I am enjoying the activity of the ODAAT board, since I was here when the crickets were chirping a decade ago. So I tried to answer the many questions and posts mainly for the "newbies" and to stick by the ever changing series.

I really suggest everyone either watch again (like I just did) or find the 2005 CBS Reunion special online. Alot of inquiries that are written here are clearly explained as to the tone and purpose of the Norman Lear 9 year classic and the years and attitudes starting in 1975.

BTW easy mistake but I think/know you meant "Her & Mark" not Sam in "Baby Love" which I have my CBS self recorded 3/4 master tape (now on DVD) which originally aired as a "one hour special". Pre-empting "Alice" that evening on 12/4/83.

Being in the television industry for the many mentioned "I know" 36 years and counting, I am just trying to get some other posters truly educated on a series perhaps they are first loving or just making fun of?, a answer not up to me to give, just surmise.

I would love to see how viewers/posters would react if given the opportunity to first see Normans' "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman" or "Forever Fernwood" if they ever return to TV. Thankfully "MH, MH" being on DVD with bonus episodes of other Fernwood related series like the cult "Fernwood/America 2Nite" starring the brillant Martin Mull & Fred Willard. But I Digress....LOL

Sorry but I am also a writer and tend to like factual information, so maybe perhaps this isn't the place to be....with respect to all friends/posters continue to enjoy life "One Day At A Time"!

The "ODAAT" episode titled "Small Wonder" #98 S5 11/11/79 introducing "Ted Loomis" is a fan favorite where Barbara stands up and realizes how she hurt the smart, yet still only 14 year old. I only "quote you" above because you wrote she "acted crazy for first few minutes" which is impossible because yes the first words Ann said were "you are certainly upset about this" but with the executive producers credit appearing (with others cut) but they were always upfronted in first seconds of first scene. The cut scene had to be mere seconds and one slam.

I could dig out my off-air 3/4 inch tape U-matic masters, not all have been transferred to DVD because having a clean head unclogged top or front loader 3/4 machine is quite a rarity these days, no matter how many times I clean them. Also some brands of 3/4 tape don't hold up as their particles cause the headclog after 30 plus years. So it becomes futile, please no one PM me asking for copies. Sincerely too busy, I am doing a service here and trying to provide information which mainly goes unnoticed with most posts recently on "ODAAT" & "Small Wonder" boards. Which is everyones' right to post freely here and just enjoy! No offense taken, LOL

Lastly for those who understand 3/4 tapes, I proudly still have a perfect tape dating back to 1975!

TeeVee please chill out. This is a place we come to have fun and discuss. No need for a back and forth. I know you are not trying to be combative but you come off that way sometimes. No need to question people in such an intimidating way.

You get very anxious when people don't reply to your posts on this board. Many times I have seen you almost beg for people to respond to your posts and that is not necessary.

I have posted several things that never got a response and that does not bug me because people may not have an interest in what I am saying or simply skipping over it because they found another good thread.

I too have original airings and and entire seasons 5 - 9 from Comedy Gold in Canada. All of those episodes are 25 minutes or longer.

No one is asking for copies of these shows with it airing on Antenna TV. They may not be unedited but some don't care.

Just try to relax and have a bit of fun. I am sorry you were upset that I did not answer your question exactly how you wanted me to.

Lastly, you write great posts but they are too long sometimes. Not everyone on here wants to read all of that information. It is great stuff but most of us don't come to a board like this to read such detailed information. I read that type of stuff for my college professors so I won't read posts that are too excessive on a board for old TV shows. Short and simple is best on boards like this.

I hear you and get you, but no apologies, as in this modern twitter verse, you are right, these boards aren't for me, but I think at times when a 18 year old poster asks a direct question about a series and I respond directly with vast knowledge, just as a college professor who askes for a 2000 word term paper and gets a one sentence one in return!

We struck a kinship over being in the same profession, I guessed you were around the same age as me, I believe I was wrong. These are not digs, I am NOT BRAGGING, I do have fun, and have read you not "chilled out" many times over sub-par questions, one example, when you responded over someone asking why Schneider always wears the same clothes? Boy did I laugh and thought "Here is a guy that gets somewhat annoyed over silly questions about yes as you said "old TV shows"!

If I come off above or bragging, I am not, but with 36 years in the business, TV on DVD show credits, Industry awards (9 Emmys), book acknowledgements, sorry again no apologies. With that kinship and spending half the year in your state of California and here in New York. You certainly know this business is all about "Who You Know", so yes these boards are certainly just for silly posts and are benign @ times, but do they ALL have to be that way or can serious discussion and mutually professional friendship also occur? We are now way OT from a simple first question of where did the scene occur? I am currently writing a biography/episode guide on the series that I watched since episode one and previously mentioned had several professional contacts with Valerie & Pat. Sadly I won't be able to get an interview with Bonnie but did an extensive phone interview in the late 90's.

BTW....I said I had 3/4 tapes (technically network airchecks) which contain original commercials as aired. That is what I meant by no PM's asking for those.

I respect you man, but I have seen threads of people being VERY combative in the most silliest posts that last with 50 or more responses.

Lastly as every year or two I do leave the boards because as with anything in life when it becomes boring or unrewarding, I know myself when it is time to exit. And you still didn't answer my simple one question, because it didn't happen as you described. I can come to no other conclusion and yes it doesn't mean a thing.

I wish you continued success in a business that combines such a passion you would do it without being compensated.

Hi, I am going to break this down 1 by 1

1. I am far from combative with anyone on here. I use "LOL" to indicate that I am joking. I would hate for anyone to think I am combative.

2. I am going back to school after a long hiatus so we may just be the same age. I never mention my age on here because I would hate to think I am the only person over 30 on here.

3. I got the Small Wonder episode confused with another episode of One Day at a Time. I have been binge watching the show (my collection of unedited episodes) on my down time so I get confused sometimes especially when I watch it on Antenna TV and it happens to be an episode I just watched. The Romano women can get the claws out quite a bit (not so much Barbara) so I misquoted. No biggie.

I have nothing but respect for you because you are one of the few knowledgeable people on here. The are people with the word "Fact" in their usernames but voice only opinions (you know who I am referring to) but you stick to pure facts.

Thanks for providing this information. I have learned so much from you so don't think that I have insulted or disregarded all of the stuff you posted
