Thumbs up I Love Lucy was highest rated scripted show Sunday

What was the highest rated scripted show Sunday night? It wasn't the series finale of Mad Men... It was a rerun of a 50+ year-old sitcom, I Love Lucy. So why do TV executives keep insisting there's no audience for wholesome entertainment?

I wonder what the 18-49 ratings were because that's all the networks care about. I'll be out of that demographic next month so I guess there's no more TV for me.

I Love Lucy is a great show that deserved better ratings but the article is a bit skewed. The dominant show of the night was the Billboard Music Awards, nothing else came close to it in demos or viewers. Lucy also dropped from its 60 Minutes lead-in in both demos and viewers. Technically it was the highest rated scripted show in viewers (not in demo) but it was 4th in viewers overall. In the demo it could only get a 9th place finish for the night. I do think Lucy was miles better quality wise than anything else on the night but sadly the Billboard Awards dominated. Lucy was not really the highest rated show of the night.

Watching non network shows, I almost missed seeing Lucy in color. We had company and my neighbor said Are you going to watch the colorized Lucy? When is it on. Tonight she said and I tuned right in. The colorized look is so different. Seeing Carolyn Applebys hair was a shock. Looked a little green. When is the next colorized episode coming? I am glad the show knocked the competition. It is wonderful, a show 60 years old still can hold an audience.

I dont really like the colorized version. I guess its because I'm so used to black and white.

Also, remember Mad Men is a cable show and I Love Lucy was on OTA tv. I think there's a difference there although I'm not sure.

I missed it because I was out somewhere. I really hate. I missed it even though I have the entire series on DVD I would have liked to have seen those episodes in color. I have a feeling CBS will do another episode in color and pair it with th Christmas special in December just like they have the past two years.

I'm glad I Love Lucy did so well. Isn't Mad Men a very hyped show that's supposed to represent the best of what modern TV has to offer? I mean I don't know, since I almost never watch modern fare.Anyways I Love Lucy a classic which has been rerun 1000s of times still got about twice the viewers as the finale of that show.CBS would be smart if they ran I Love Lucy and a few other classics every week or more.

I'm glad I Love Lucy did well in the ratings. I watched it and loved it! I'm sick of some of the shows on TV now. All they are are reality shows, shows with sexual themes, strong language and homosexuals. I don't care about seeing any of that. That's why I watch my DVD's. My brother always jokes with me about watching Andy Griffith every evening. What can I say? I love classic TV!!

Thumbs up

I have the whole nine yards of I Love Lucy on DVD and plan to add The Lucy Show and Here's Lucy to my DVD collection by year's end. You can't go wrong with the classics!

The colorized look is a bit strange for we have seen it so much as black and white. I did glance at scene out the living room back window where the piano is located and the city came alive a bit more. If the show was on today with the set colors I don't think I would tune in.

My nephew Eli (who lives in Maryland now) has five seasons' worth of Lucy (the first two of which I had given him, and the other three of which I had purchased for him [two as a Christmas present, one for a visit last month, IINM]). He really does enjoy watching them.

It was interesting to me to see the colorized version of Carolyn Appleby (Doris Singleton) in the Superman ep. Had they chosen the Harpo Marx episode instead of William Holden, we would've seen MUCH more of her (hot!).

I thought that overall, the color was handled well for both episodes. The only problem I noticed was that in the William Holden ep, the inside of Desi's mouth looked strange -- in the scene where he's telling Lucy that Holden is in the next room.

I watched I Love Lucy instead of Mad Men (which I've never seen) Sunday night, but then I'll be irrelevant to the networks in less than 2 months myself.
