Default Did you watch the Oscars?

Did anyone here watch the Oscars? If so what did you think? Did you think anyone was robbed?

I thought they were one of the most entertaining Oscar ceremonies I have seen in recent memory. I really enjoyed all the various tributes...the tribute to film in general, the tribute to music in film, etc. I absolutely LOVED the tribute to special effects with the Cirque Du Soleil! That was so cool how their moves were coordinated to what was being shown on the screen. And of course the tributes to Sidney Poitier and Arthur Hiller.

I'm really happy for Halle Berry for "kicking down that door" is I believe how Whoopi put it. It is a shame that door has been there for so long.

I'm glad Howard Shore won for best score for Lord of the Rings. John Williams is amazing, but he has already won many Oscars, plus the soundtrack to Lord of the Rings is one of the most unique movie scores I have heard in a long time. I'm also glad Randy Newman finally won.

I think it's great they added the animated feature film category.

I didn't see a Beautiful Mind, so I guess I can't say for sure, but I was hoping to see Peter Jackson win for best director. He took something that everyone said could not be made into a movie and did a damn good job with it. I also think LOTR should have won best adapted screenplay. Oh well at least it got Best
Cinematography.

I also thought this was a better than average Oscars because there wasn't really any clear forerunners of who would win in many categories which added an element of much needed suspense.

Talking

I saw it!!!
I thought it was soooo great that Halle Berry won...that's who I was hoping win all the time, and it was touching to see her cry the way she did, and dedicate it to Dorothy Dandridge and Lena Horne...and Denzel Washington winning for best actor! I think this is the first time in history that a black actor and actress both win in best actor/actress catagory. When Denzel W. won, I thought Julia Roberts seemed more excited for him than HE did! She's been wanting him to win one, she's said.

I saw it,

While I was rooting for Nicole Kidman, Halle was my second choice, and I'm really glad that she was the one to "Kick down the door" as she was amazing in Monsters Ball, and really desevered it. Nicole will have more chances, she's got some great movies coming out.

I really enjoyed watching them, and for once I wasn't bored to death.

I watched about 20 minutes of it then I fell asleep. I like to watch some award shows but I think the Oscars are kind of boring.

OMG, The Oscars are the focal point of my life! It's my favorite thing in the world - I am NOT exaggerating!

This year I saw 4 of the 5 Best Picture nominees, and I'm very happy that A BEAUTIFUL MIND won. My top choice was MOULIN ROUGE, but A BEAUTIFUL MIND was second. I loved LOTR, but I didn't want it to win best picture. I just don't think it deserved it.

I was shocked that Halle Berry won. My personal choice was Renee Zellweger for BRIDGET JONES, but I knew she wouldn't win, so Nicole Kidman was next. But who could be mad at Halle?

As to who was robbed:

1) Helen Mirren deserved that Oscar for Best Supporting Actress more than anyone that was nominated that night. I am a big Jennifer Connelly fan, but Helen had her heart and soul in her role, and on top of it Jennifer's younger and has many more opportunities to find good parts. I wanted Helen to win sooooo much!

2) Sean Penn in I Am Sam - one of the best performances of his career, unfortunately I think his votes were split with Russell Crowe.

3) Enya / Faith Hill / Paul McCartney - they all had great songs up this year. Now it was nice for Randy Newman to finally win, but this was certainly not the song that should have done it. It was not better than the other nominees.

***by the way, it really ticked me off that they didn't mention the passing of three great actors in the IN MEMORIUM section. Dorothy McGuire who won an Oscar passed away in September, Troy Donahue died very young of lung cancer, and Berry Berenson who was killed on September 11. Yet they still recognized Aaliyah? (I know it was sad - she was very young, but her 2 films do pale in comparison with the 70 some of Dorothy McGuire.) That just plain out and out bugged me.***

I think Moulin Rouge should have won every single award...it was nominated for wut...8?!?! And only won 2?!?! Insanity! At least Jim Broadbent or whateva his name is won...he was in Moulin Rouge. But I wanted Moulin Rouge to win more...I LOVE YOU EWAN MCGREGOR!!!

I saw the show but, I thought that it ran too long.

I liked the Cique de Soliel........

I hated......... Absolutely hated Gwynith Paltrows dress. What was she thinking?

I hated that Cameron Diaz looked like a mess.

I loved Halle Berry's dress. (Beautiful). She is the Queen of the red carpet.

I can't believe I watched the whole thing. The Oscars were typically long and boring, but had some great moments, nevertheless.
Halle Berry's speech was really heartfelt. I'm glad she won.
BUT, it was the year of the "Oscar darling". Like Denzel, and Ron Howard. Randy Newman.
All past nominees not so much recognized for this year's particular work, but for their whole body of work over the years. It's just sad that the BEST of the nominees were overlooked and snubbed because of this. It's all about politics. Like when Ghandi beat E.T. in '82. TRAVESTY.

I think that A Beautiful Mind deserved everything that it got.. That movie was amazing.
While I love Moulin Rouge, and I think that Nicole and Ewan put there hearts into there
roles, it wasn't the best movie there. (Although it DID deserve all the tech awards.)I'm a
theatre freak, so obviously Moulin Rouge appealed to me in that way.

The Oscars in general are a piece of C*@P! Why you ask?

Because it's all about politics. Maybe I should stop watching it. It's never about the BEST actor or actress. (Don't get me wrong Denzel and Hallee are deserving)

The only movie I saw this year was In the bedroom.

I get mad because.........

If they give the Oscar to

(Example) Best movie
Best actress
Best director
Best supporting actor
Best producer

But yet they don't give it to the Main charecter (?) What a bunch of bull! It happened in countless movies........ Grrrrr.......
