Sad There's a tear in my beer!!!

After watching "I Do, Adieu", I've come to the conclusion that Cheers was a really depressing show! I mean look at all the things that have happened on the course of the show:

1. The Coach dies. (Even though the show didn't really address it that well, he left a big void on the show.)

2. Diane leaves Sam to write a book.

3. Eddie Lebec dies, leaving Carla a widow and also finding out Eddie was a two timer.

4. Lillith cheats and leaves Frasier.

5. Esther Clavin's boyfriend Fitz dies.

6. Cliff Clavin's only real girlfriend leaves him to go to Canada.

7. Cliff's father also leaves him.

8. Coach's fiancee wins lotto and forgets about poor ol' Coach.

9. Diane returns to Sam only to realize that they've grown apart.

Fans of the show,(Such as myself) will always remember Cheers for being a funny, often silly slapstick sitcom. However, the show also had a lot of heart and at times could really pull at your heart strings.

HEY I AGREE CHEERS STILL DEFINTLLY CAN SOMETIMES BE A VERY DEPRESSING SHOW,YET IT IS FAR MOST AND ALWAYS WILL PROBABLLY A SITCOM,IT DEFINTILLY HAD ALOT ALOT ALOT OF HEART TO IT AND AT TIMES IT COULD BE SAD,DEPRESSING,DEEP,ACHUALLY I CAN SAY IT WAS ALWAYS AN DEEP SHOW IN IT,S OWN RESPECT,but what i guess really attracts me to it is defintlly exactlly it has heart,CHEERS ALWAYS HAD ALOT OF HEART AND MANY MANY MANY NAMELESS WONDERFUL ATTTRIBUTES THAT MADE IT THE WONDERFUL SHOW IT IS,EXTREMLLY SHARP WRITING,VERY INTELLEIGENT,HUMOROUS,
GREAT ACTORS,OUTSTANDING ACTOR,NICE CHARACTERS ect, see to many to name, but it was all these great strenghs that makes it such a great show and it sets it apart from all your other stupied, silly, juvinelle sitcoms and shows that are in the majority i think,it wasn,t just another dumb sitcom and always much deeper that your average sitcom even still if it could be silly at several times during it,s very very long run,i always have said that there is something very serious in the undertones of cheers,i see very serious undertones to it sometimes, well partiularlly or atleast in the early years perhaps, espeacilly i think in seasons 1-3 and even 4,and perhaps still in Dianes final year,It just seemed to have a more serious tone somehow, but i guess the rebbeca ones defintilly had theres to,I was very sad to see eddie lebbec die almost as much as ernie pantosso, but i didn,t really liked anything about how they handled eddie lebbecs death,i thought it lacked heart and resecpt for death,I HAVE NEVER BEEN UPSET WITH CHEERS BEFORE ONLY THE TIME WHEN COACH DIED AND I DEFINLLY FELT THEY DID NOT GIVE HIM A GOOD ENOUGH RECAGNITON THAT I FELT HE VERY VERY VERY MUCH DESERVED TO BOTH NICHOLES COLSANTO AND COACH,BUT I GUESS I WANTED THEM TO HANDLE EDDIES DEATH WITH A BIT MORE COMPASSION AND SERIOUSNESS,EVEN STILL I REALIZE CHEERS IS A COMEDY AND I DID FIND IT VERY FUNNY,but i still wished they would have put more feeling and heart into which i think would have been done differantlly earlier one,but do AGREE WITH YA SINCE I SEE SOOOOOOOOOOO MANY SAD MOMENTS IN CHEERS,I think cheers was a kind of serious show despiate it,s COMEDIC OVERTONES,BUT I AGREE IT,S STILL A SITCOM,BUT A SITCOM WITH HEART AT IT,GREAT POINT STILL,CHEERS IS A RATHER SERIOUS SHOW UNDERNEATH IF YOU LOOK AT IT REALLY HARD I DO SEE THAT YOU MAY FIND SEROIUSNESS UNDERNEATH,THANKS LOL CHEERS!

I'll agree that the Cheers writers always had a knack to find humor in just about anything. (Even when Frasier tried to commit suicide) But just imagine or remember when Cheers was on NBC and you were watching "I do, Adeiu". think about watching the last sceen where Sam tells Diane(Who's already out the door and walking away) "Have a good life". Back then, you had to wait through the entire summer to find out what the hell happened to Sammy after that. Torture to Sam and Diane fans, simply Torture!!!

Cheers IS like a borderline soap! Seriously... that's what I love about it. It's not just a FUNNY show, like most sitcoms. It DOES have heart. I'm a very melodramatic person, so I just ADORE the drama. I'm addicted to soap operas, but they lack the reality a show like Cheers offers. The writers had a wonderful way of bringing drama to the story, yet kept the humor where it was needed. Just being funny becomes boring. You need that climax to keep people hooked on the show. I know people are complaining about Friends turning into a soapesque show, but I notice people still adore it. The longest running sitcoms have that level of drama that keeps you hooked! This paragraph is completely redundant; however, I don't care. (Surprise, surprise!) I'm too tired to care. LOL

I still don't see the purpose of adding that storyline into the show! Obviously, they wanted audiences to feel sorry for Frasier, because Bebe was the one leaving. If Lilith and Frasier had broken it off any other way, it would have been partially Frasier's fault... seems to me they wanted us to pity him. LOL Whatever the reasoning, I hate the storyline!!! I want Frasier and Lilith back together!!

Lilith: I mapped out our dominant and recessive traits on a genome square, applied Mendel's laws, allowed for anomolies, and concluded that you are the best biological choice.
Frasier: I see. Well, enticed as I am by your honeyed words, I'm gonna need some kissin'.
Lilith: Frasier, don't misunderstand. I'm not proposing any change in our relationship.
Frasier: Would we sleep together?
Lilith: I thought we'd freeze your sperm.
Frasier: Is that a yes or a no?
Lilith: Natural fertilization isn't practical. I'd have to fly to Seattle every time I ovulate.
Frasier: Right, okay. So then, your plan is for me to visit some local doctor, freeze my essence, and then bring it home with you.
Lilith: Correct. I'll take mine to go!

Think of it like this, Bebe WAS leaving the show. The writers at that point had no idea if she would ever return. Keep in mind that Bebe no longer wanted to play the role. At the same time, I believe the producers already had plans to spinoff Frasier once Cheers ended its run. So no matter what, you had to keep Frasier as likeable as possible. Frasier was the character that was comitted for the long haul not Lillith. Just be glad they didn't decide to kill off her character! How would that have been???
