Question have you ever seen an American sitcom in another country?

Have you ever been to another country ( England, France, Spain, ect..) and catch a rerun of an American sitcom or really any show for that matter?

Kinda curious if the channels over in England
or the nets down under in Austraila cut up shows like they do here for commericals or for time. Also if an American sitcom airs say in France for example are there extra scenes that arent seen in the states?

When I was in Toronto this past summer I didnt see much difference between the shows
that aired there on CTV, Global, or CITY than the shows aired here. But I wonder if its different in say London or Paris. I'm sure many US shows get played there.

Japan I heard that some big name stars like Madonna, Tom Cruise, even Sy Stone who wont touch TV here but yet they do COMMERICALS over there.

Some American shows DO feature extra scenes
when they are shown in another country.

For example the old NBC soap Santa Barbara was so big in Paris that it aired in prime time there. From what I heard the Paris edition of Santa Barbara featured extra scenes of sex and nudity, scenes that would be OK in France but would NOT be accepted in
the US. Dynasty was reported to be doing the same thing- extra steamy sex scenes, scenes you wont find on regular over the air televison in America. As far as sitcoms goes, since TV in other countries tend to show less commericals ( both Britian's BBC and Austraila's ABC dont allow commericals )
might very seen more of the original print there instead of the chopped up ones here.

The Japan thing about big stars doing commericals there is ...well money. They get paid quite well doing spots over there.

Interesting to know whats big there but not here when it comes to tv in other countries.
Rikki Lake's show is seen at 4am where I live and it cant even beat home shopping in the ratings YET its HUGE in London.

Go Rikki !!! Go Ricki!!! Bloddy good show !!!, bet they say over there.

I used to watch "ALF" all the time in primetime when I was little in Germany, and I remember I watched it up until we moved to the states in 1995 (Army.....)

It was in Primetime, and it was HUGE! Back then it was the most succesful American Show There, in Germany.

I Don't Know If It Was Cut....But I've Heard There Are Restrictions of 4 commercials per company per year on some stations, or all.

In Israel, I saw "Bewitched," "I Dream of Jeannie," "Newhart" and "The Simpsons." All were apparently unedited but speeded up because that country uses PAL broadcast standards. All were in English; all but Newhart had Hebrew subtitles. Most Israeli TV has commercials after the shows.

In Switzerland, I saw The Simpsons dubbed into Italian.

In England, I saw The Simpsons on BBC-1 and I believe it was unedited.

I've seen Diff'rent Strokes in England, and Family Ties in France (dubbed in French)!
