I'm sorry but the episode with Julie dating a older man was just WEIRD - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Mckenzie Phillips was a 17/18 year old girl in real life when this episode was created and they had her kissing on a man old enough to be her dad????

LOL I am surprised CBS would allow a episode like this to air because it seemed so inappropriate. I am 39 now and I would feel weird making out with a 18 year old college freshman.

Atleast Good Times version of a older man and younger woman was more appropriate since Bernadette Stanis never made out with Lou Gossett

But it was good seeing Jim Hutton. I barely remember the Ellery Queen TV series he was, and I'm not sure I've seen him in anything else, but he was a pretty prominent actor. It's hard to imagine he's been gone so long, since just a couple years after this episode aired (1979). And now even his son Timothy is waaay past 42. He'll be 55 this year! And that's very hard for me to imagine. I still think of him as the troubled young son in Ordinary People. He's most recently staring in American Crime, which is supposed to be really good.

I liked that four part series though. It was entertaining and well acted I thought! MacKenzie really is a good actress!

First of all, in what world would parents let a [I]17/I] year old girl date a 42 year old man without calling the cops on his behind?! And Ann/Ed were just supposed to go along with this foolishness or else 'lose their daughter'?

Please, I would have pointed to the exit and said the door's that-a-way!

Julie is living at her mother's house rent free, eating food/wearing clothes that Ann provides so as far as I'm concerned, she is not the adult she always tries so hard to be.

Well she was only 2 months shy of 18 so nothing much they could do about it.

Growing up, we were always polite to our parents, never giving them backtalk or telling them that we were going to live our own lives, especially when we didn't have two nickels to rub together and still lived at home in the first place. Watching the show as an adult, I feel that Julie was indulged a lot...don't even get me started on the runaway episodes, I'm still drinking over that one.

if you think about it , it does make perfect sense that Julie would just run off and leave her husband and baby like she did. She only thinks about herself. It makes for good drama though. lol
