.....is that while a show about a serious business (highway patrol), they handle it with a fun way, 1970s style! I was 12 when the show premiered and can remember watching it back then. But so many shows like Chips, Charlie's Angels, Love Boat and Fantasy Island were so fun and light in the style of that time. Pure entertainment. Nowadays we have all these serious "reality" shows that aren't as entertaining as the old ones. I put reality in quotes because I'm just wondering how much of these shows are scripted with all the "drama" they create.

Anyway, Chips is just a fun show!

Sometimes I imagine how a tough and gritty take on CHiP's would be done today.

Our country seems to be so jaded and cynical now that I don't know if a current-day version of Chips would work today. As you stated Mace, it would have to be gritty and therefore to me would be depressing and negative. I want some entertainment when I watch TV. We get enough reality from our stinking government in the news daily.

Or it would get very soap opera-y ! Like really get into the personal lives of the officers, that and the combination of gritty crime. You are right it wouldn't be lighthearted at all!
