Default I can see why Ann was not comfortable with the young doctor

He just came off so GOOFY when the situation was very serious for Ann since her daughter was going under the knife. I mean he gave off the "if this surgery don't go well I'm still paid" type of vibe. lol

And Julie so damm immature and only wanted him to operate because she felt he was good looking. Why did someone looks have to matter as long as she was getting her health issue fixed? Julie was so weird

When Ann realized Julie was really sick and in pain and it was most likely appendicitis she should have just gotten her to the hospital! Their own doctor was out of town, and they are sitting around thinking where they could find another doctor. Even had the yellow pages out! I mean come on!!! Get the girl to the hospital! I know it was the middle of the night, but Schneider was there, he would be willing to go with them if Ann was afraid to go out at night or something!

And than conveniently there happens to be a doctor in the apartment building! I didn't have a problem with him being young, but under the circumstances, Ann already being nervous about his age and experience and he still is cracking stupid jokes and stuff!!!

Than getting to the hospital and their are NO surgeons available???? HELLO!!! What the hell kind of a hospital was that?

l wouldn't go that far. LOL. If I were a parent, I'd be concerned as well. He should have held back on the jokes and been more serious and maybe Ann would have taken him seriously.

He acted like a stand-up comedian. I couldn't take him seriously, either.

I dug up this old thread because this ep is on tonight, and pretty much what I posted before is what I think now!!!

One thing I will add is how times have changed!!! Obviously they did have insurance, so that wasn't the issue. Now days they would have just got Julie to the hospital on a HMO or PPO or lately with Obama care even poor people with Medical/Medicaid (Medical is what Medicaid is called in California) , she would have just been taken to a hospital and that would be that! They would have diagnosed her and operated or whatever they had to do, they wouldn't have been sitting around wondering what to do and as I said before there wouldn't have "conveniently " been a young doctor in the building! Even if there was they would have just got her to the hospital, not even bothered with that young intern/doctor guy!

WOW!!! IDK!!! I was pretty healthy back in the 70's and never had to be rushed to a hospital! And I guess people around me were too, but was that the norm? All that confusion if people obviously had medical insurance? ? Or was that just for the show?

Plus that young doctor wasn't even all that hot looking!

I tend to look at it that it is just a sitcom, and things are often portrayed in a silly way, unrealistic and we know that people in their right mind wouldn't say, or act like they did in this episode. He did seem awfully young looking though didn't he But then again, this 'made' the episode...his being young looking to Ann, his looking 'hot' to Julie and so on and so on.......... I can't even begin to count the times I've watched many a show, even shows today, and say, wow, that isn't even remotely realistic.

and as always, JMHO....

Just watched my recording (missed it the first cycle) and totally agree with Mickey4ever. I found this one pretty funny straight thru. Yes, even the doctor. If someone's going for an honest look at the medical profession, there's always documentaries, or maybe ER .I thought we wanted our sitcoms humorous.

See now I saw it different! And you know me, I usually find the humor in everything! But not this. I thought it was sad, a poor young girl being sick with appendicitis, and all the worry cause her doctor was out of town! Back than, OK you contacted your primary doctor for things, but if he wasn't available, he had associates that would have said get her to the hospital, they would find an associate of the Doctor to take care of her !

I thought that young Doctor was corny and well, that wasn't my favorite ep, lets put it that way! Also Julie looked pretty healthy and she was supposed to be sick, than a few seasons later she looked terrible and was supposed to be healthy , coming home from a ski trip with a fiancé and a fiancé's best friend in love with her!
