Default Does anyone think the Schneider spin off would have worked

I watched the Schneider spin off attempt a few months ago and I have always wondered how it would have played out if it continued and was picked up for a series.

What are your thoughts?

I never saw that spinoff. But he was a popular character on ODAAT so I don't know why given time his own show wouldn't be well liked.

It would also depend on what other actors /actresses were in the show, the plot, time slot it would have been on! All that. So it is hard to say. I would have given it a chance. I thought Schneider was a funny, likable character!

I still have never seen that episode. I purposely refused to watch it when it originally aired because I wanted Ann's exit to be the final. I'll watch it if Antenna TV shows it.

It was no as much as a spin off as much as it was a back door pilot. Kind of like they did for The Facts of Life on an episode of Diff'rent Strokes and Jackee on 227.

It aired a week after the One Day at a Time finale. I was lucky enough to have almost all of the final season recorded from CBS broadcast so I was able to get the pilot for Schneider.

I am not sure if it will air as part of Antenna TV's package but I don't see why it shouldn't. It aired on E! when the show was airing on the network in the 90s.

It will appear at some point so you'll be able to check it out. I had multiple episodes of ODAAT up on YouTube before they were removed.

That is why I couldn't find a particular ep on YT. It was probably removed as one of my eps was removed.

Regarding a spinoff? 50/50 chance to me.

Try to post that episode on youtube by taking a video camera and record it off of the tv. This method was used to upload episodes of Leave it to Beaver to youtube with success,at least so far. Let say the spinoff was aired in the same time slot and day that One Day at a Time was airing in,for a point of reference.
Unless the plot would be the problem, I think Schneider could practically carry the whole show with minimal strong support, given time.

Here is the synopsis for the Schneider pilot

When his brother dies, Schneider decides to move there to take care of his niece and nephew.

Barbara is the only one from One Day at a Time to appear in this episodes. The acting was pretty bad in this episodes and those kids were not the greatest of actors.

It obviously not written by the same writers of ODAAT and if it was (I will go back and check) then they were not really trying then.

The kids were bad actors? I thought Corey Feldman was pretty good.

This would have been at least the second opportunity Pat Harrington had to star in his own show. Back in 1959-60, Danny Thomas was prepping Pat Harrington and actress Penny Parker to take the reigns of his own series because Thomas was becoming too busy as a producer. But it was decided Harrington wasn't ready, so Thomas continued on as star of the show. He later tried out Sid Melton and Pat Carroll (probably more famous for her appearance as a crabby hospital patient on Mary Tyler Moore), but he still ended up starring on the show until the very end.

It really sucks how YouTube is pulling down full episodes now. I had almost every episode from season 2 to 9 (except episodes already posted by other users/uploaders) posted for over 3 years before they were taken down. I even had it listed as ODAAT so it would not be as noticeable to those copyright hawks. I listed each episode like S09E02 instead of by episode title as well but they still got me.

I am so glad Antenna TV started airing the show so it can get some new exposure.

Use the video camera recording method of off the TV and upload the show in two parts, and if it gets taken down, keep increasing the amount of parts until they let it stay. Worse case, if it gets taken down after you feel you have too many parts, start by uploading the whole show with the video camera recording method of of the TV, but when doing this, turn the level all the way down on the TV so you will record it in black and white. At some point, they will leave you alone, you just have to find what that point is.

It's simply not worth it if I need to do all of that. I end up losing because they could delete my account after a certain amount of copyright claims. I have never seen them take legal action on people for uploading TV shows but I am not going to be the first. I am not going to be the one they make an example out of. I will refrain from uploading content they deem copyrighted.

Besides I would never take a video with my phone because the quality will look like crap. My recordings of the show are between 20 to 30 years old and the quality is okay for the most part. They would be unwatchable if I do that and I would not let fans of the show have their first glimpse of the show look so undesirable.

That is the whole point for it to look like crap,so they will not care that you uploaded it.Another idea,if you feel so strongly to reject my ideas, would be to upload a still picture of the episode and just the audio to go along with the picture. The true fans are thankful for what they can get,and if there is nothing better, they have nothing to complain about. It can be put in the description that you are sorry for the poor quality.Long ago TV shows were recorded with a Kinescope,up into middle 1970's and many recordings were destroyed due to what they thought to be poor quality, but in some instances, they were the only recordings made available to TV stations, and now there are only the masters that sit on the shelf that people may never see due to copyright of some or all of the episode.Another instance similar to this is where they took the whole,or just about, the complete archive of one of the first TV networks and threw them in river in New York,if I remember correctly.

I don't think they sit around and worry about quality when a show is uploaded that they want taken down.

Infringement is the same no matter what creative way I could upload it to YouTube.

I had a person fuss at me because the audio dropped a bit during an episode so I would not record something with a camera to upload it or worse have a still image with sound playing. If I am going to upload something it will be in the best quality I can find it in. Fans may never see many of the shows I had uploaded in a long time since classics are not a major on TV anymore so I want to provide the best versions I can.

Many of the shows I upload are recorded from Comedy Gold which airs their shows unedited. It is better that the original versions I have of many of these shows because the audio and picture is much better as they were recorded from digital cable.
