Default ME TV lately-what gives?

why have they been showing everything lately with black bars at the top & bottom of the screen? I'm not complaining, I'm just curious as to why.

What kind of TV set do you have, a 4.3 or 16.9 HDTV? The only thing I watch on MeTV is CHiP's and that is shown fullscreen.

I don't know how big the screen is, but I know it's not an HDTV.

No black bars here either. On a side note, how does Star Trek win their ME-TV March Madness thing? Ugh.

I see the black bars too and it is The local channel 2 doing it and they
are refusing to fix it. I emailed many times. Only get excuses.

Just to give an example old TV sets are considered 4.3 making it a nice square shaped screen and many classic TV shows were taped or filmed to be shown this way.

I for example have a widescreen (16.9) HDTV but I have the menu settings set to watch old TV shows in their original aspect ratio of a square box giving me a black bars on the sides which in technical jargon is called "pillar box".

Many current TV shows are now being filmed in a 16.9 widescreen format so you will always have the black bars top and bottom when watching on an old 4.3 TV set.

Some stations offer an alternative and taking old TV shows and either stretching a 4.3 image to fit HDTV's or cutting the top and bottom of said TV ratio therefore ruining the original ratio even more.

HDTV are very cheap now! Maybe you should upgrade to a 50" for $500?

I just found out in my area I get 2 stations for METV, Antenna TV and COZI. The other thought though, I thought my area lost Antenna TV and I was bummed but a day later it came back. One time I was watching Make Room for Daddy on non HD station and the sides are a little cut off. So I move to higher up station with HD and the sides are bigger. Sometimes with out knowing the show, I don't know the difference.
