Sad Stolen / Missing Mail

What do you think? Stolen? Lost?
The fact that it's five makes me think maybe they were stolen.

I was contacted this morinng by The Texas State Library informing me that five audiobooks are overdue. They were due March 19-26. I am very diligent in returning books before they are due. I know I mailed them back. I have been with the library for 27 years and like to have a good record with them.

Majority of the time I mail them back from my mailbox here at home. Once in a long while I will have them mailed from the blue drop box outside the post office. They can't be tracked by USPS becaues they are mailed Free Matter For The Blind.

Two cassette books of mine were stolen back in 2007 and that individual has since been prosecuted for stealing ten of thousands of pieces of mail from a blue mail drop box.

More missing: see post #4.

I'm assuming that the audio books are sent to you with a pre-paid mailer or label for returning them. If that's the case then you should be able to add tracking to it yourself when sending it back. The cost is $1.05 or if you really want to be safe then signature confirmation would your best bet at $2.90.

^The audobooks have a postcard that is reserseable. One side has their address in the upper left hand corner and my address in the middle. With Free Matter For The Blind in the upper right hand corner.

When mailing the audiobooks back the postcard is flipped over. It has the address of the Texas State Library in the middle and Free Matter For The Blind in the upper right hand corner.

Thumbs down Stolen :(

I think my mail is being stolen.

Three dvds from Netflix (I signed up for a free month trial Saturday) were shipped on Monday and I still haven't received them. It's Thursday.

Does your mail arrive at about the same time each day or does it vary?

Sometimes it will vary. I think usually it comes at about the same time.

The three Netflix dvds show up finally. Shipped on Monday and received today. It took five days.

As far as the library audiobooks there is no way to track them .I spoke to a supervisor who called me from my local ppost office. They don't have the audiobooks. She did say that one of the "plants" is in process of closing. I clarifed with her what she meant. There is a post office downtown that is closing, but my local post office isn't. With the one closing that will and is slowing mail down.

That's a good question. I asked that on Friday. I called the library and I asked very nicely becuase I didn't want them to think I was insulting the computer system they have. The woman I spoke with said that the first thing they do is scan in the audiobooks. Then they check them. Once they have been insepected they are put on the shelves. She told me there isn't a way that they would accidently skip an audiobook because the first thing they do is scan the bar code on it.

If you want to see if your mail is being stolen, have someone mail you a greeting card or a bubble mailer. If you don't get it, something is up.

Too bad there's not a way to know if the audiobooks I mailed back to the library, which they never received, were lost or stolen.
