Default Uncut Seasons 5-9 available on iTunes/Amazon instant video

This is no joke. All seasons are officially available online now on Amazon + iTunes. I'm not sure when they came out but they are out. And they are in HD too. This is very amazing. I don't know if they have been released on DVD as well. Hopefully they have. Check this link for season 5:

Only seasons 1-4 have been released on DVD.

I hope this isn't a sign that seasons 5-9 won't make it to DVD. I will be very upset if one of my favorite shows doesn't get released because of some digital crap.

Yes. That would suck, especially when most of us have been wanting the full series on DVD for over 10 years. But at least it is up online. But I'd also prefer it on DVD over the web.

Well well well... I just saw all of it on iTunes about 20 minutes ago. I'm in complete disbelief they dumped seasons 5-9 on there but I'm not complaining! I sent Warner feedback not even 2 weeks ago saying I wanted to see them get the rest of the series out either on DVD, iTunes or both..they listened! Holy crap that was FAST!! I just got 200 bucks worth of iTunes cards yesterday at Target on sale so of course I bought seasons 5-9 just a bit ago! Bought the SD versions of the last 5 seasons. So with that my Family Matters collection is complete. I'll download them later once I get the sorely needed Internet upgrade here at home.

Ok Warner, that's one series done, several more to go. I want to see them dump all of Perfect Strangers, Step By Step and Head Of The Class on iTunes the same way just as suddenly. After this I'm betting those 3 are next.

I hope everyone wanting physical DVD releases of the rest of the series gets them but after this I really...wouldn't be holding your breaths for it. It's NOT against any of you personally, it's just this is a damn miracle they did this much even. Plus you have to remember they just got done finishing replacing a crap ton of Season 4 sets so people could have the uncut episodes. To Warner doing it this way, digitally, is probably cheaper and easier. Fans want the rest uncut? Okay here you go, all of it on iTunes. Whatever isn't out on DVD now will likely end up on iTunes in the end. I used to be totally anti digital a few years back. Not anymore...it's cheaper and more convenient for me. I've done a complete 360. Yes, I'll buy physical DVDs when I can but if iTunes is the only option I'll certainly buy that way. Everyone's going to have to make their peace with digital download future in their own time. Everything will eventually be 99 percent digital.

This is all Warner had to do to get my money-get the damn shows out! Good start, Warner. Very good. Got a lot more work still though.

As much as I hate to, I may have to resort to ioffer for the remaining seasons. I did the same for seasons 4-6 of "Green Acres". I still have hope for an eventual DVD release but with this new news I find it highly unlikely now.

I'll never understand DVD companies...a lesser known show like "Wanda at Large" gets a MOD release via the Warner Archive and a popular, very well known show like "Family Matters" only gets released digital. Who knows?!

Can I ask a few question? Im asking out of curiosity and not to be mean. This is for you and everyone else too

What makes you prefer physical DVDs over digital downloads? Is it being able to build a physical collection you'll always have? Is it that you can personally get them cheaper? One of the things that made me do the 360 on downloads is the insanely massively ridiculously huge physical DVD I have! It's taking up 6 storage bins plus several well organized stacks on the floor I have yet to get space for. A lot of my collection is getting to be available on iTunes so I'm starting to slowly buy all of it on there. Having all of it in one place like that, all organized just makes sense to me. Is it that some of what you want you can only get on DVD? Some of it is only available that way and I get that. I'm genuinely curious about people's stand on this.

On the opposite side why do you not like digital download? Is it future ownership concerns? Apple has stated that should they ever have to discontinue iTunes they have plans in place that will still allow us to access our content. They keep saying as long as we buy our stuff legitimately from them it's ours and we will have access to it. Is it again price? If they had released seasons 5-9 on DVD, we'd be looking at 30 to 40 bucks a pop depending on where we'd be buying them from. I got the SD versions of the last 5 seasons for about half that price. Was about 100 all together and I personally looked at it as Id have spent at least that much for them on DVD anyway. Is it you only have so much storage space? My iPad mini is...32 GB I think and I should have gotten the 64. They're up to 128 GB now which I'll probably get later this year.

I do agree there's no rhyme or reason to Warner's decisions. This suddenly just dumped on iTunes yesterday, while others onky see MOD release on their store. That's how they seem to be proceeding with Growing Pains-just so you know I'll be getting that one physically because it looks like for that show it'll be the only way to get it for now. They really need to offer the stuff bith physically and digitally but at this point...after yesterday I'm not gonna bitch at them too much. They actually did it, got it all out in one shot and it appears to be uncut too.

They can get at least 250 more out of me easily. Figure Perfect Strangers and Step By Step will be over 100 a piece for all of them and probably around 100 more for HOTC if they do it. There's a few other shows I wanna see them bring out along with those..let's see how much of it they're willing to cough up.

Basically,

I consider myself a TV on DVD/Blu-ray collector and I like to be able to touch my collection and see it sitting on my shelf.

I'm the same way with certain comic books and music CDs.

Also...the big kicker for me is I don't have a home computer. I use my phone while I'm at home for internet.

Your reasoning is totally understandable, thanks for your answer I mainly am curious about this because video gamers cite the same reasons why so many want physical copies over digital that you gave. I love my collections don't get me wrong. It's just for me my bedroom is becoming really limited on space thanks to all the DVDs I have. Something had to give for me and it was lack of space but still wanting all the shows.

Thinking about it, a lot of people now only have a phone for Internet now and either don't use their pc or just don't have one. If someone has a lot of pictures, videos and music that's already a lot of space gone which makes buying shows to watch on it impractical. Also, like with iPhone the 64 GB one is super expensive..not everyone can afford that so they have to get an affordable one that will let them do their essential stuff on it.

Thanks for your answer

You're welcome.

I'm very happy that seasons 5-9 are available to those who choose to purchase and view them this way but it's just not for me and I will just sit back and wait for a physical copy to become available. If a physical copy of season 5 isn't available within the next year, I'll just buy a bootleg set on ioffer-- I hate doing this but it leaves me with no other option....sorry 'bout it.

Hi, everyone that still here... I was a member here almost a decade ago. I still visit this place sometimes. After I read this thread I thought maybe I'd re-register and post about these new HD transfers so those of you who hold the old DVDs in a better light know that one HUGE upside to these iTunes uploads is one wonderful fact: the show has been Digitally Remastered!

I have the DVDs of the first 2 seasons and let me tell you, the iTunes version blows those DVDs out of the water. the iTunes version is so clean and pristine! it's almost as if you're watching a modern TV Show!

In comparison, the DVDs have washed out colors and video noise and artifacts that date back to the old days of film-to-analog-video transfer.

I think these new digital transfer worth every penny for a die-hard fan of this and other 80s and 90s shows that were shot on film.

what I'm saying is: maybe the reason they didn't release Season 5 on DVD yet is because of these new digital remasters. they probably delayed the DVD releases so that, at least, the rest of the show (seasons 5-9) will be released on DVD from these new digital transfers... Maybe even sometime down the line (like 3 or 4 years from now) they would even release the complete show on Blu-ray! ahh one can only wish... but it's possible!

If Family Matters can go digital on amazon, then how come Perfect Strangers or Step by Step aren't going to be in digital like amazon even though they're unable to get the DVD release?

Well I'm happy about this even though my preferred method is the DVD. At least I can watch the episodes that aren't available to own on disc. The problem now is that it costs too much to buy the whole series at once. But it's just good to know it's up.

I also noticed Amazon has all seven seasons of "Growing Pains" available for instant streaming.

Again my preferred viewing method is on DVD but this is better than not at all. I just wonder if there's a way to buy the episodes on Amazon and then burn them onto a disc. If so, I would do that for a bunch of shows not available on DVD like the rest of Family Matters, Growing Pains and Girl Meets World.
