Plane crash kills 150 people in French Alps; Europe in shock

SEYNE-LES-ALPES, France (AP) — A Germanwings jet carrying 150 people from Barcelona to Duesseldorf slammed into a remote section of the French Alps on Tuesday, sounding like an avalanche as it scattered pulverized debris across a rocky mountain and down its steep ravines. All aboard were assumed killed.

The pilots sent out no distress call and had lost radio contact with their control center, France's aviation authority said, deepening the mystery over the A320's mid-flight crash after a surprise 8-minute descent.

The Latest: Crashed plane never sent out distress signal Associated Press

The pilots sent out no distress call and had lost radio contact with their control center, France's aviation authority said, deepening the mystery over the A320's mid-flight crash after a surprise 8-minute descent.

"The site is a picture of horror. The grief of the families and friends is immeasurable. We must now stand together. We are united in our great grief," German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said in a statement after being flown over the crash scene and briefed by French authorities.

The crash left officials and families across Europe reeling in shock. Sobbing, grieving relatives at both airports were led away by airport workers and crisis counselors. One German town was rent with sorrow after losing 16 high school students coming back from an exchange program in Spain.

"This is pretty much the worst thing you can imagine," a visibly rattled Haltern Mayor Bodo Klimpel said at a hastily called press conference.

After night fell on the hard-to-reach site, French authorities called off the search and helicopters stopped flying over the area.
i'm beginning to think there is a malevolent UFO that is destroying these airplanes, causing them to crash. no distress signal.

i wonder who is next?

You might want to apply to CNN, because they'd hire you in a second.

CNN: "Did it travel to another dimension? Is it a Zombie plane?"

dont know, but how many more airplane crashes, mysteriously, no distress calls, into mountains and oceans, before it starts becoming suspicious like that flight 370 and this one.

when enough planes crash it starts getting eerie

This is awful to hear. Less than three months ago, I flew into that airport from Amsterdam and out of the airport to Rome.

All of those on board and their families are in my thoughts and prayers.

CNN is reporting that one of the pilots was locked out of the cockpit at the time of the crash....

I think that rules out anything "paranormal" here. Sounds like incredibly unfortunate human error.

Germanwings plane went down in French Alps within a mile of 1953 crash site

Germanwings plane went down in French Alps within a mile of 1953 crash site
By Michael Walsh 6 hours ago Yahoo News

A French army helicopter heads to the Germanwings flight crash site near Seyne-les-Alpes, Wednesday, March 25, 2015, after the jetliner crashed Tuesday in the French Alps. French investigators cracked open the badly damaged black box of a German jetliner on Wednesday and sealed off the rugged Alpine crash site where 150 people died when their plane on a flight from Barcelona, Spain to Duesseldorf, Germany, slammed into a mountain. .

The Germanwings flight that crashed in the French Alps on Tuesday went down near the site of another plane crash from 62 years ago.

On Sept. 1, 1953, an Air France Lockheed L-749A Constellation crashed into the Mont Le Cimet in southeastern France near Barcelonnette.

The International Business Times says the crashes happened “freakishly close” to the one another, within a mile.

According to the Aviation Safety Network, the 1953 crash killed everyone onboard: 33 passengers and nine crew members. French violinist Jacques Thibaud was among the victims.

Investigators determined the cause of the crash to be controlled flight into terrain (CFIT), which is when a pilot in full control of the aircraft inadvertently flies it into an obstacle.

In this case, the plane initiated its descent for Nice but had flown off-course for unknown reasons. Pilots in CFIT crashes typically are oblivious to the danger of landscape ahead until it is too late.

The Air France tragedy occurred within a mile of spot where flight 4U 9525 fell from the sky this week, as several reports point out. Similarly, all 150 people aboard the A320 Airbus died: 144 passengers and six crew members.

Authorities on-site are searching for clues to the cause behind the eight-minute dive earlier this week.
amazing coincidence, to crash 1 mile away from a previous crash.

coincidence.
