Default What do you really think of Eddie ?

Pretty much he always burned me up but in at least two episodes we got to see a bit deeper in Eddie. The first is "Eddie's Girl" He feigns illness so Wally can take his girl (Caroline Cunningham) to a dance or something. At the end of that episode Eddie and the Beav are out in the garage crushing cans in the vise. The other that comes to mind is when the Beav and Richard ruin Wally's sportcoat and Eddie covers for the Beav. Any other episodes where Eddie comes across in a positive light?

Not exactly Eddie being "morally good" or a "hero," but:

In "Wally's Play" Eddie takes the part of the dance hall girl that Wally doesn't want and ends up being a big hit (although we don't actually see it). Ward suggests that Wally could be a little more like Eddie.

He was great jerk who carried nearly every episode he was in. The false sincerity....the self-serving schemes.....being a jerk just for the sake of being a jerk. Honestly, Eddie episodes are my favorite. I love a good villain.

I just watched this episode. It was weird to see Eddie as a nice guy for once. Weird, but nice.

He was the best. He would be most likely to have a spin off show.
He reminds me of a young formal Rollo from Sanford and Son.
Rollo was about twice Eddies age,but Rollo was nice to Fred in the way Eddie was to Mr.Cleaver, then, when both of the fathers were out of the picture, they would both tell there scheme they had on there mind at that time.

I agree, he may have been a jerk most of the time, but he did make you want to keep watching and add to the comedy of the show a lot. I loved his character.

Deep down he was a good sensitive guy who was insecure and had to compensate it by acting the way he did.

There was more to Eddie than just being a jerk, like OMG65 said, Eddie was insecure, and his acting like a character/being a jerk was an act: watch the episode where Eddie gets his own apartment, or the episode where Eddie spends the night, then after his fight with Wally and Wally and Ward go to Eddie's house where he's home alone, we see how scared Eddie is to be alone. Or in the episode where Eddie asks Beaver if he wants to go for a ride, and in another Eddie hangs out with Beaver in the garage to crush things in the vice. Interestingly it seems Beaver sees the real Eddie even more so than Wally, I think Eddie wants to look cool for Wally, but can act like himself in front of the Beav.

I think with Eddie he was such a kiss ass. I wish June or Ward would have said that in not so many words. It was so obvious. Something like that grate on my nerves if I was Ward because obviously your full of it. How can you tell when Eddie is sincere when he acts like a jerk and kisses ass so much?

One of the greatest characters in television IMO. There have been many many imitations, but only one Eddie Haskell.

Well, from a story plot standpoint, he made a nice contrast to Wally. As others have said, Eddie was insecure, and that was at the root of his often irritating behavior. In another time and place, he could have become a real juvenile delinquent; fortunately he had Wally as a moral compass.

He was a great character-lol- there will never be a greater b.s. artist than.Eddie. He also added spice to the show.

I think it's funny when Eddie showed up at the Cleavers' door that he always complimented Mrs. Cleaver (on her dress, hair, etc.), trying to make himself look like a nice guy. Mrs. Cleaver always thanked Eddie for the compliment but I think she saw right through him.
