Mill Creek, having previously issued 1-4, releases season 5 and 6 today. As those who own the Sony DVDs know, season 5's visual quality was rather weak at times. There were either digital transfer issues or problems inherent to the original film that were not properly restored. "Cousin Serena Strikes Again" was particularly rough. I'm wondering if perhaps Mill Creek used different prints, or just re-issued the same Sony set. For the price, I'm assuming the image quality would be no better than the Sony S5 set. But, I'd of course purchase the Mill Creek release in a heartbeat were these issues resolved. Anyone planning to purchase the Mill Creek sets? We would love to know how the visual component fares on their discs. Thanks!

I haven't watched them all, but I did check Cousin Serena Strikes Again, and it appears to be the same rough print. The picture was kind of soft and fuzzy compared to part 2 which was sharper IMO. The end credits had a lot of dirt and debris, too.
On the plus side, my set (Season 5&6 Combo) came packaged in a standard sized black DVD case with disc flipper pages---not a hub-type case like prior releases. |
