Question Does anybody else Homeschool?

I do! I love it because I was teased and bullied at my old school. Does anybody else? I just started this year. It's harder but it's worth it.

Cool

I'm in college, so I'm not homeschooled. I never was homeschooled before. I kinda wish I was, because I HATED school!!!!!! I was always teased and bullied by the other kids, from kindergarten all the way up until 12th grade. I don't know why kids have to be so mean.

Kids can be mean, but I don't agree with homeschooling. Public schools are very good, and I'm afraid that between homeschooling and private schools, people will have a worse and worse opinion about public education.

Yea, my parents put me in a Catholic school for 11 and a 1/2 years, and they always thought public schols were bad. Well I lived in Chicago, so they were kind of scary. But not too much. But since now that I am in public school in CO, my parents have nothing against public education. And I like it SOO much better. Homeschooling sounds okay, but I always thought that homeschools have a really hard time making friends, but that's just my opinion. I don't mean to be mean.

It really pisses me off when people say this, (BTW EricMatthews, I'm NOT jumping on you,
this is something that a lot of people, think, and I know you said it was your opinion.)
I have
been home-schooled off and on most of my life. I was home-schooled full time
kindergarten-third grade. I had NO trouble making friends, and I was not any more sheltered
then the public school kids. In fact, most of the home-schooled kids I've met were sweeter
and a lot more social then kids who went to normal school.
Most people who say "Kids need to be socialized, ect." don't know ANY home schooled kids.
Or know like one, who happened to be a brat. (Yes, there are those, like any normal schooled kids.)
And as for not agreeing with homeschooling because people are forming bad opinions about public schools,
I think quite frankly that ,PUBLIC SCHOOL SUCKS!
I know some people can't afford private school, but
really, the horrible standardized testing, some of the terrible teachers... Things like that,
made my time in public school MISERABLE. The president seems to just have made things
worse.

Schools have no idea how to deal with learning disabilities, my sister is in regular
school and has one, all they could do for her on the big tests was give her more time, which
to her wasn't the problem.

Because of my acting career, (It was a hobby.. It's now become a
career) I had to miss so much school that I was failing. (Yet I was doing fine when I was
actually there.)I got sent to the principal for being late one day because of an audition, and
basically as punishment had me stare at the wall in his office for THREE HOURS. He had
no clue what to do with me, so instead of letting me take advantage of the time I had there,
he took me out of class to get to know the wall. The wall and I become best friends before
that school year was over.

When I'm in NY I go to the Professorial Children's School, which
is a really awesome place, great teachers, great understanding of time limits because of
auditions or performing, ect. And they are very good about giving kids with learning
problems accommodations.

*Steps down from her soap box.*

The spacing on the post is really off.. Sorry about that.

Yep I do, I went to homeschooling mainly cause I was doing bad in school, my mom doesn't like public schools, and I have this stomach thing where my stomach hurts a lot, sometimes with it hurting real bad, and it would not work going to public schools having this. I do like being homeschooled but I miss seeing my friends everyday at school.

No but I really wish I was because Public schools are just plain awful!
Now I don't know about other people but I strongly believe that public schools are one of the worst places to be in. I want to get homeschooled but my mother thinks I should be around people. I'm depressed and most of the time its because of the people at my school. In fact the thing I have learned most in that horrible place is to HATE and fear people. As for homeschools being bad because its hard to make friends to me it really doesn't matter because I don't have friends at school (Just alot of enemies!).

I wish I could be at homeschool but my mom thinks its wrong. I don't know why, but she does. She just gives a bogus reason and then changes the subject when we're talking.

I think I'd be really dumb if I was homeschooled because all of my teachers are a lot more experienced in what they teach then what my parents are. It would be nice being able to sleep in later but I feel like my teachers can give me a better education. I mean how can you learn Spanish from your parents if they never even took it? Yeah they would get stuff explaining things to them but there would still be stuff they wouldnt understand so therefore I wouldnt either.

Yea, It's just I was never homeschooled, so I really wouldn't know how it is like, but I just thought it was weird because you don't need to change classes or have different teachers for different subjects, and see your friends often. I mean I probably wouldn't like to be homeschooled. Like Jeff said, I don't think my parents would have taught me as much as the teachers I had. Well, they really don't speak English too well either, so It's not like it's an option for me anyway.

Okay, come on that's harsh. Just because you've had some bad experiences you are in absolutely NO POSITION to judge every public school. We aren't picking on homeschooling (although I certainly could) and I'd appreciate a little more respect for a system that has worked for years.

Ok, public schools do NOT suck! Some might, but not all do. My school is the top middle school in Western MA, we are in the International Bacclurate program [sp?] We've got penpals, we are involved in many colleges and programs around here, we have one of the top principals in the city, and last but not least, my school is safe.

I switched to public school because, NO OFFENCE to Catholic schools, but the ones in MA are behind. I do not like Catholic school. I'm doing things I'd be doing in 9th grade now. My math teacher gets all of our homework from 9th grade math books. I was just plain bored in Catholic schools.

It really pisses ME off when people say "Public school sucks". Some people are scared about the kids in the school, others are just plain scared. All these shootings, disturbences in school, these could happen ANYWHERE, in ANY school. I'm sick of people thinking only bad things happen at public school.

You know, I'm sorry if I sounded um, whats the right word.. pissed off, but I hate people who say public schools suck. Some do, but others don't.

Are you a teacher or something? .

It may be harsh, but to me it's the truth. I know a lot of
people who think the same way, it works for some people for others it doesn't, but for me and
a ton of my friends, it sucks. The 'system' hasn't worked for years either- It's worked for some people. 8 out of ten I believe was the average that say they did fine. It's great for them. But what about the other two?
Now,
I'm not judging every public school, I never said that all public schools suck, I said TO ME they suck, it's my opinion on them so far. (For all I know, I could go back. I could do great but so far I haven't.) I worded that oddliy, and I'm sorry, it was my way of shorting my post.(It was REALLY long the first time I typed it, and no one wants to read eight page posts.) I was responding to you
saying that people are forming bad opinions on public schools.
People may be, but sometimes it's not un-earned.
I could have worded my first post better, but my temper tends to flare at these kind of things, and I can't seem to get that cynical tone out of my....... Posts.

And please, 'pick on' home schooling. I'd love to hear what you find wrong with it.
