TV CBS Renews "2 Broke Girls" for 5th Season

"2 Broke Girls" Renewed at CBS
by Nellie Andreeva
March 12, 2015

After word leaked yesterday that CBS has renewed Chuck Lorre comedies "Mom" for a third season and "Mike & Molly" for a sixth, the network this morning is confirming the pickups, along with a fifth season order for "2 Broke Girls".

Premiere date for 2 Broke Girls's 5th season announced: 12 November 2015. Angel from Hell is being pushed to February (or later).

Oh, wow. That's very "late".

I don't understand. The order for 2 Broke Girls's season five was supposed to be for 22 episodes. By the end of February, only 11 of those episodes will have aired. I see two possibilities: CBS will either reduce the episode order to 18 (the remaining 7 episodes air on Mondays after Supergirl finishes its first season), or if Angel From Hell (which premieres January 7) gets cancelled after a few episodes due to low ratings, they move 2BG back to Thursday @ 9:30 for the remaining 11 episodes (provided its order remains at 22).

Both options are likely but Mike & Molly will also have 7 episodes left so the Monday pairing is plausible but then again The Odd Couple will finish after Upfronts so either one of these can be paired up with that one still.

About the 100th episode of 2 Broke Girls, they were initially supposed to have "And the Coming Out Party" be the "official" 100th episode, but for some reason, they had "And the Not Regular Down There" be the 100th aired episode for 2BG instead.

I think they have around 5 more taping dates scheduled. IMDB has 16 episodes listed and some have titles published so I guess it depends on how many are already filmed to add to the others yet to be filmed.

I really think CBS wants the show gone. It did bring huge syndication money but I don't know how many seasons that was for. Plus WB owns the show not CBS.

One thing though is CBS lacks established sitcoms going into next season so I hope the Girls will get at least one more season. I dread the final episode where the diner closes or the girls get married/have a baby and some move away all at the same time. This show should be the last one to have a cliche' "finale".

^^I have not heard any official word about CBS reducing the episode order for 2 Broke Girls's fifth season. There were 22 episodes ordered, and it is likely that all of them will be produced and aired before the end of May, even with the season's late start because of Thursday Football. Plus, 2BG's ratings and viewership are considered average right now.

Also, don't forget that CBS has Mom (which is also owned/produced by WB), and considering what that show is about, there is a chance that you're going to have some of Mom's characters getting married, having new babies, or moving away during its final episode (or final season).

I know I'm gonna be hated for this, but I think 2 Broke Girls should be kept on for as long as possible; I don't care who owns/produces it.

I agree with you. The show is a short distraction and has some really fun characters. Sure it is not long on plot and has some jokes that are not all that tasteful to many people - but those folks aren't going to be watching any way. When I come home from a hard day at work I like to pop in a DVD and watch 2 beautiful young women in a show that aspires to be nothing but about 22 minutes of fun and maybe some double entrdre's or a cheap laugh.

If you like the show it does what it aims to perfectly.

I'm a fan of 2 Broke Girls but not a fan of Sophie (Jennifer Coolidge) I liked her more as Stifler's mom..lol

More tapings appear scheduled
2 Broke Girls ★ 2/9/16 ★ 2/17/16 ★ 3/1/16 ★ 3/8/16 ★ 3/15/16

IMDB Lists 16 episodes. The shows tend to air 5 weeks after taping, so the 3/15 taping could air around the May season wind-up. I think 9 episodes have aired this season, 3 more list titles which makes 12 with 5 left to tape.

The show is 50/50 on returning next season but I am hopeful.
