I love June

Her posture, her clothes, the gracefulness of the way she sits, her choice in foods (and amounts) that keep her slim.

I am such a clunky tom-boy compared to her.

Would a woman like June fit int today or would she be an outcast. Son's of Anarchy chick she is not.

I agree with you - June was a georgeous and graceful woman. And IMO, I think she would fit in with today's world or any time in life because of her grace and inner beauty - sure otter beauty is nice to have, I imagine, but people are too superficial about it and they forget what's in the inside that still counts! And I must add that I feel that a nice person is always a beautiful person on the outside too and can be nicer looking than the thin models who are all about themselves and no one else.

June was a really great lady! Very cultured and classy . I think she very much would fit in with todays society. Because even though she has a lot of culture and class, she isn't a snob. She always was very nice to people and welcomed her son's friends to their home. she was a good mother. so it just goes to show you you can be cultured and not be snobby!

I just posted in another thread about June. But I absolutely love her! I'm a housewife as well and I'm southern, Texan. And half my family is a bunch of rednecks and half are southern belles. I'd like to think of myself as the southern June. Or try to emulate that. Seems like she takes her time and puts extra effort into appearance, food preparation, and housework. She might live at a slower pace, but she's better for it. I think I could learn something from that.

June was the quintessential mother! Dedicated to her family and home. Smart, wise AND pretty. Sweet and gentle, but would defend her "babies",
if need be! Loving wife, supportive and affectionate to Ward. Prided herself
in maintaining a well kept home, for them all. And, her cakes, well . . .
they were to die for!

I absolutely agree with you! I have two little boys myself and I know exactly how she feel in several episodes. And I live pretty traditionally, housewife, traditional gender roles in marriage, into "vintage" homemaking and such. So, I'm protective over June as well lol I will defend my babies and defend June against anyone
I love how their marriage and parenting is portrayed. Loving, realistic... My favorite show. It's a great example.

I love June, too, and wish my mom had been more like her. Indeed, my mom was like her in the sense of doing-things-the-proper-way. She did work full-time, though, and when we (the 4 of us) were kids in the 60's she mostly worked "split hours;" 8 a.m. to noon, then 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., and her mom, who was a cross between June and Aunt Martha, stayed with us.

If the question comes up whether June ever went too far in her insistence upon right and proper, usually you hear about the Brussels sprouts episode. While that may be an example, my biggest criticism, and Ward went along with it, is the "Visiting Aunts" ep. Maybe it's because of my strong conviction against lying and hypocrisy, but to me it's rather disgusting that after the boys set up their rendezvous for the carnival, June expects them to drop it all and "spend some time" with Aunt Martha and her friend, who just called and said they would be dropping by. So the boys get dressed up, and after the presumed 'short' visit, June insists they stay for lunch. And even though Aunt Martha asked them if they had anywhere to rush off to, they lied and said no because they knew June (and Ward) would expect that of them. Even so, they let their disappointment show, and June rather brushed them away for it at first. Ward, of course, told them they should have a better attitude, as June and her kids are all the family Aunt Martha has (what happened to Peggy, who had a baby in season 1?), and they should be willing to make such a person happy even if they make themselves "a little unhappy."

Alright, it's fine that they should be courteous and respectful to Aunt Martha, but June's demand that they stay all the while she is there, and lie if necessary, does go too far. Besides, if Ward had taken the boys to the carnival, then June and the 2 ladies would have had their own time at lunch, and wouldn't they have enjoyed that?

One more word about my mom... she worked for the phone company all those years, and she and many coworkers were offered early retirement-- the issues of teaching the new technologies and needing less operators and such-- and she and the other ladies who worked there for a long time then had an informal club they called "The Dingalings." They had at least one day out every month, as well as dinner and shopping on any of their birthdays. So I think she got her rewards for not being the full-time mother she often said she wanted to be.

June was a wonderful lady. I admire "Laceylauren" for kind of modeling herself after her. Just as there is much to admire in women pursuing any career they desire, there is also a lot to be said for women who cherish spending more time with their young children and families. Two episodes where June shines were the Birthday Gift episode (where she has a good heart to heart talk with the Beaver), and the episode where Beaver didn't want to go to the store and gave June the silent treatment (a much-maligned episode on the old TV Land boards, but I though it was one of the better final season episodes...probably because I used the silent treatment when I was a teen). The silent treatment lasted until a bee stung Beaver, and he went running to Mom. And they had a nice talk.

I agree about Visiting Aunts. I'll just say that after the boys sat and talked for a while, Aunt Martha decides it's time to shove off. Okay June make the Aunts some lunch and you girls have a nice talk but let Wally and Beav go to the carnival. June should not have demanded they stay and visit with the ladies. You could tell the luncheon was going to be Very stiff and stern so let Ward go to the carnival too. (Love the Dingalings story)
