Default MTV Hit By Layoffs As Viacom Restructuring Continues

Quote:
The wave of Viacom layoffs has reached MTV. We’ve learned that layoffs are underway at the music network. There is no ballpark headcount yet as I hear the process started yesterday and continues today, with some estimate that as much as 12% of MTV’s staff may be gone by the time this is over at the end of day today. I hear no department is being spared but for now, I hear the New York group has been seriously hit, especially those working on the unscripted side, including longtime staffers. Sister network VH1 also is being hit we hear, with veteran employees in marketing and promotion, design and PR among those impacted by layoffs.

“As announced, we are in the process of restructuring and there will be employees leaving the company as a result. We are so grateful for the contributions they have made to Viacom,” the company said in a statement to Deadline, declining further comment.

Viacom is in the process of combining the bulk of two network groups – Music and Entertainment – into one under Doug Herzog, and there is an ongoing consolidation in a number of departments as part of that, including Production, Research and Digital.

Oh No

I hope MTV goes back to its roots and plays music videos again...

Keep the vids but have some variety as well...that's the lesson for today...and the reality bubble has busted!

The days of music videos is long gone and reality TV is so stale and boring. The last time I flipped by Mtv I could not even tell what they were showing.

Viacom management is awful. Networks with no identity and endless commercials. How could anyone manage to screw up TVLand? Classic sitcoms for heaven's sake. But have fewer true "Classics" and cut the episodes to shreds and show 20 commercials in a row and it is dead.

Well...if anyone wants to see a music video anymore, they go to YouTube not MTV.

This should be its new logo...

I think the Internet has killed TV Land/MTV because of

Youtube

Hulu

Netflix

With all those options who the hell needs to watch music videos or classic tv on those channels? LOL

Nickelodeon is also affecting it when Viacom restructures.

TV Land/MTV wasn't killed by the internet, it was killed by the exec's in charge.

By the way, there are still a lot of people unable to watch TV online because not everyone has unlimited internet.

Lets just say the internet and digital TV defintely contributed to the downfall since they both offer what tv land used to give the public.

Lets face it. Nick/MTV/TV Land, the whole bunch of them fell into this "Reality TV is the new thing and old stuff is garbage" mentality. You've seen it over the years with TV Land/Nick/MTV. Look at how its declined. I mean remember how great Nick at Nite and TV Land USED to be? So honestly, like I mentioned in another thread, I hate to see anybody lose there jobs but they did it to themselves. They should have left well enough alone.

Try YouTube, they have at least 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 of them!

As for other programming, I got that covered too!
