This is probably going to be a short thread but I figured I'd ask anyways and see what we come up with. Besides the character Lou Grant (played by Edward Asner) who was on The Mary Tyler Moore Show and then the drama Lou Grant, does anybody know if there's been other TV characters who have appeared on both a sitcom and a drama? I'm guessing there are probably a few others but besides Lou Grant I can't think of any. So if anyone knows of any others let's list them. I thought it would be interesting.
Oh, I just remembered Mary Richards and Rhoda Morgenstern from the Mary Tyler Moore show, and then in the 90s they were brought back in a short lived TV drama (I never saw it myself) which I can't remember the name of right now, so if anybody remembers the name of that show we can list that too! Hawkeye Pierce and some of the other characters when MASH went from being a sitcom and became "the Alan Alda show".

Detective John Munch played by Richard Belzer on multiple dramas such as Law & Order, Law & Order: SVU, The X-Files, The Wire and Homicide Life On The Street; and also made appearances on the sitcoms "30 Rock", "Arrested Development", and late-night series "Jimmy Kimmel Live".

Well, many of the characters from "The Brady Bunch" later appeared in the short-lived and basically embarrassingly bad 1990 drama "The Brady's".

Mike Connors revived his character of Detective Joe Mannix from the show MANNIX; on an episode of HERE'S LUCY once.

Oh yes I can't believe I totally forgot about Trapper John. Although that's a bit different since it was the same character but he was played by two different actors. I don't think Wayne Rogers and Pernell Roberts looked anything alike either.

I knew that Richard Belzer's Detective Munch had appeared on several different series, I just didn't realize it was that many. I wonder if that's a record for a single character appearing in that many different shows.

I can't think of any other characters that were on both a sitcom and a drama but there's at least 2 that appeared on 2 dramas/adventure series and on 2 different networks. Byron Stewart played Warren Coolidge on The White Shadow (CBS) and St. Elsewhere (NBC) and Richard Anderson played Oscar Goldman on The Six Million Dollar Man (ABC) and The Bionic Woman (ABC/NBC).

Actually, I believe that yes, it is a record. i believe that was mentioned in articles when Belzer retired from SVU. It should be noted that some of these like 30 Rock were really cameos where he had 1 or 2 lines. |

A few years ago, I believe there might have been a crossover episode between "Two and a Half Men" and "CSI" where characters from both series appeared on each other's shows. I remember that it happened but I might have the wrong names.
