SMG Speaks to E! News on Why "Buffy" Reunion Won't Happen
Sarah Michelle Gellar on Why There Won't Ever Be a Buffy Reunion Movie
by Chris Harnick 3/4/15 Everything is getting a revival or reboot nowadays, from "Heroes" and "24" to "The Comeback" to potentially "The X-Files". But what about "Buffy"? The beloved series from Joss Whedon starred Sarah Michelle Gellar and ran from 1997-2003 on The WB and UPN. "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" still has a cult following today. In fact, the character's adventures continue in a Whedon-sanctioned comic book series. But what about on the big (or small) screen? E! News' Ali Fedotowsky tasked Gellar with that question: "Well a reunion happens all the time, just not televised. (laughs) What people seem to forget was that Buffy was a failed movie. It didn't work as a movie and it worked much better as a long-arched show where you can follow this journey. We spent our whole first year going, 'Yes, we're based on a failed movie but we're different.'" http://www.eonline.com/news/632044/s...-reunion-movie |

For the longest time I disagreed with SMG on this issue but I now sorta see what she's saying. Besides, the series is still active in comics; doing a movie would interrupt the comic book arcs unless it was a prequel. And she's right, reunions happen all the time but they're not televised.
