Default Pet Peeves of mine about Leave It to Beaver

Actually there are a couple of episodes which really burn me up.

The first would be the episode about Wally and Chucky Murdoch. Now Wally had something to do and Wally dumped Chucky on the Beaver and Beaver and Chucky went to a shoe store where Chucky got lost. Of course, Ward blamed Wally for getting lost. I would have told him that the only reason he got lost was because Chucky got himself lost. Chucky was a defiant, spoiled little brat but NOBODY wanted to talk about that. I felt bad for Wally.

The episode where Wally was horsing around in the locker room and he couldnt participate in the meet. As usual, Ward blames Wally and not Eddie nor that sack of crap, Lumpy. I mean why should Wally have to suffer? Why didnt Ward and June tell Eddie "hey, you want to come around here, fine. You want to act like a trouble maker, thats YOUR business, not Wally's. You act like that around Wally and he gets in trouble, your not coming around here anymore." Something like that, yet somehow, they never said anything.

I will say it seemed like Ward was a little more on the ball than June. I mean when Gilbert was introduced and Beaver and him fought, did you notice how slowly Ward got up and went over to Gilbert's house to break it up? He knew that they had to fight it out.

Not really a pet peeve per se , but I can't get over the windows in the front of Beaver's classroom! It makes no sense to me! To see the chalkboard the kids would have to turn their heads to the side , that would be uncomfortable all day, probably leave them with stiff necks. Or they would have to turn their whole body around, than it would be awkward to do their work at the desk!

I just watched this episode and ask myself the same thing when Ward asks Wally how an almost Junior in high school could cause so much trouble. What the heck? I mean this lady comes over and insists on non-family members to help out at last moment with her kid and Wally is to blame for not stopping his plans for the whims/needs of a woman that he doesn't really even know.

There's a whole discussion at IMDB.com under Leave It To Beaver message boards entitled Most Idiotic Episode To Date. It really gets everyone's take on Chuckie's Shoes and how the mother is such a floozy. You'll really agree.

Each time I watch this episode I think - if I had to watch this kid (Chucky), he would have went home in a body bag and a toe tag!

LOL I agree kid was a total creep. death to Chuckie. "I want the shoes so I can see what my toes are doing." Can't believe Beaver bought two pairs of shoes to satisfy the kid. Wonder what his mother will do when she gets the bill.

I did not like the way Chucky's mother forced Wally to take the task without waiting for Wally's answer.

Just a side note about Ward and Eddie. Once Ward really did get really pi**ed at Eddie-when he took out the Beaver's report card and changed that D- in math to a B+ and Beaver initially got blamed for it. Wally got Eddie to confess to it, and Ward was no happy camper; Ward basically told Eddie if you ever do anything like that again you can't come around here. ( Just looked up ep: "Beaver's Report Card S4 ep 27)

My pet peeve (sort of): the creepy friends both boys had. Larry and Gibert- who were often bad influences on Beaver. When they'd get Beaver in trouble, they'd often not face their share of the music and bail. Same with Wally with his two doofy and lame-a** friends Eddie and Lumpy. Sheesh-with friends like these who needs enemies. With them, Wally was more of a babysitter than friend. But, the contrast did lend dimension to the show---would have liked to see another teen on the show as solid as kind as Wally.

I am wondering that if there were no mean and selfish kids on that show, would it be entertaining?

There was another episode where Ward was going to tell Eddie off, but Wally stopped him. I don't remember the ep name.

Oh, and I agree about Chucky and Chucky's mom Chucky was an obnoxious brat, and the mom had no right to dump Chucky on Wally like that. Besides, her excuse for not being able to buy shoes for him was lame. She could have bought the shoes before or after she picked her husband up, or better yet not wait until the last minute to do things.

I think it could have; but it would have been more of a challenge for the writers and producers.
