Jerry Orbach as Lenny Briscoe on Law and Order. Alan Alda as Hawkeye on MASH. Mary Tyler Moore as Mary Richards on The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Kelsey Grammer as Frasier Crane on Cheers and then Frasier just to name a few.

Adding Bob Denver as Gilligan from Gilligan's Island, and James Arness as Matt Dillon from Gunsmoke. Oh and Zach Braff as Dr. John Dorian on Scrubs.

It's clear this is what happened to him with Gilligan, but I personally see him more as Maynard Krebs, just because that character is more awesome.

If there was a channel that would show Dobie Gillis and Gilligan back-to-back, over time Bob Denver would become more fondly remembered for Maynard Krebs. The problem is just that Gilligan's Island was a local syndicated television institution in the 1970s and Dobie Gillis wasn't.

David Hyde Pierce-Dr. Niles Crane (Nobody else could have done it better!)
Betty White-Rose Nylund (Yes, she was on MTM as Sue Ann Nivens and HIC as Elka but she will ALWAYS be Rose to me.)
Jane Leeves-Daphne Moon Crane (Jane is Joy on HIC but she will always be Daphne to me. I loved her character.)

Edward Asner as Lou Grant. He played that character on 2 shows, The Mary Tyler Moore Show and the spinoff Lou Grant. And one was a sitcom and the other was a drama. Not many people can say they've played the same character on a sitcom and a drama.
