Post They're Not Just Cats....

I know people have the right to like and dislike what they want to.
It bothers me though when I hear, "it's just a cat" or "it's just a cat, it has nine lives." Ugh. I know some people are dog people and some people are cat people, but I don't get why some people hate cats.

Both my brother and sister think very little of cats. They just don't think cats are important or really matter. It's awful. My sister shared a video on FB of different cats being scared by people and things such as balloons. It was awful. She thought the video was "hysterical." I didn't think it was funny. I asked her what she would think if her dog Tex was treated like that. I thought that would get her to understand scaring animals isn't funny. She got real defenisive. She said she would "talk crap to them." She then said, "they're just cats, they have nine lives."

I agree! I love cats too! I can't understand somebody not liking them. I can see if you prefer dogs , that is fine. But I have found that people do freely say that they hate cats and they don't care even if the person they say it to is a cat lover! And like they will act like a poor feral cat on the street is just a cat, and don't care that the poor thing might not have enough to eat or get sick or proper shelter from the weather conditions. It's like people feel dogs deserve better treatment than cats, and I don't see why or think it's fair at all!

I'm not sure why some people seem to think some animals deserve better treatment than others. I think both cats and dogs are important. I think both types of animals should be cared for equally.

It's sad that not everyone can have compassion for animals. I hate to see any animal mistreated whether it's from frightening them or actually harming them.
Sorry your brother and sister think so little of cats.

It's sad when either of them are abused in anyway but it really bothers me when it's a cat. Anytime I hear of one being mistreated, it infuriates me and I just want to go home and hug mine and cuddle her. I've always loved cats.

I hate that too. I was always a dog lover and only got a cat back in 1989 because the place we lived in didn't allow dogs, only cats. I had never lived with a cat before so I didn't know what to expect. Foxy stole my heart like no other animal ever did. We had him for over 16 years. He's been gone since 2005, and I can still cry thinking about him or looking at his picture. We now have two new furbabies to adore who add so much to our lives.

I also don't understand when people say they HATE cats. I've never heard anyone say they hate dogs. They say they're afraid of them, but not that they hate them. It just seems that it's accepted to hate cats with a passion. They're just loving and defenseless little creatures.

I definitely agree that cats are loving. I know what you mean. Some people are scared of dogs, but wouldn't say they hate dogs, yet there are some people who have no problem hating cats. Foxy sounds like he was such a great cat. I knwo that Lily and Cesar are great and so cute!

I grew up having a dog [Max]. I didn't have a cat until I was in my fourth year of college. I miss that cat, Chava. I also miss Cuddles who I got in March 2008. I have a tuxedo cat Romeo who I have had since Sept. 2008. He's my little buddy.

Yes!!! Exactly!!! It's not fair at all!!!

I always loved cats! I grew up with them! My Mom and Dad loved cats! We always had at least two or three in our house at all times growing up! My Grandma had more, she used to feed all the neighborhood cats ( Back than we called them stray cats, now they are called feral ) And she had house cats too! Well indoor/outdoor cats , back in the 60's - early 70's a lot of times cats were indoor pets, but went outside too! I also had cats with my first husband. My sons love cats too!

Anyway we had dogs too. My Dad liked them, and my sister was really into dogs too! But Mom, my brother and me always preferred the cats! I liked Dogs but not at all in the same way I loved the cats!!!

So now!! OMG I have a husband who claims to be 'Allergic" to cats!!! I think that is BS, or he just thinks he is or whatever. Like Janice was saying , I think he doesn't really know cats. He never had a pet cat growing up and doesn't know how cool and sweet they are! So since I have been with him, I can't have a cat! We have birds. My husband loves birds. I do too now, they are sweet pets, but you can't hold a bird in your arms or have a bird sit on your lap. And there is nothing sweeter than hearing a cat purr or the way they sit and squint and blink at you with their pretty eyes !!! ( All you cat lovers know what I mean, it is SO CUTE) !!!!

So we have birds and of course we can't have cats with birds! I'd like to have a little dog, but until recently I have always worked and with both of us working all day, it would be sad to leave a poor dog by itself all day, where as a cat would be OK with being alone esp if we had two cats!!! Another cool thing about cats, they can be left alone , where as a dog will get really upset and sad if they are alone! Wish he didn't have this "so called allergy" and we could swap the birds for a cat or two!

I never liked cats much(we always had dogs) until my grand children got a kitten for Christmas. They named it Amy. Later they discovered that Amy was a male. But I got quite attached to him. He was a great mouser and he would run across the road to a farm and explore their barn. He was constantly depositing mice, rabbits and bats on their front porch. Sadly, Amy got hit by a car and I felt so bad for him and the kids. Amy was a COOL CAT!

Once when my sister and I were in Rome, we walked by a garden, that was full of stray cats. Then an elderly Italian gentleman stopped and talked to us about them. That garden was like that Japanese island, only a lot smaller.

Anyway, I sure am a cat person. I like dogs too, but I never had one of my own, so I can't deny that they can scare me a bit. But we still have two cats, and I can't stand cat haters.
