Actress Lizabeth Scott, who played the bad girl in numerous hard-boiled film noir releases of the 1940s and '50s, died Jan. 31 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. She was 92. The cause was congestive heart failure, said her longtime friend Mary Goodstein. Often playing the femme fatale, Scott starred with Humphrey Bogart, Burt Lancaster, Barbara Stanwyck, Van Heflin and others in films with evocative titles such as “Dead Reckoning,” “Pitfall” and “Too Late for Tears.” Scott broke out of her film noir stereotype for a few movies, including the 1957 Elvis Presley vehicle “Loving You” and the 1953 Dean Martin/Jerry Lewis comedy “Scared Stiff.” Her sultry looks and husky voice drew comparisons to Lauren Bacall, but as film noir faded, so did Scott’s career. Her last movie appearance was in “Pulp,” a 1972 send-up of the noir genre.
