Damon Wayans Jr. is Leaving "New Girl" (again)
"New Girl" Losing Damon Wayans Jr.'s Coach (Yeah, Again)
by Michael Ausiello February 5, 2015 "New Girl" is undergoing another Coach-ing change. Damon Wayans Jr. has opted to exit the Fox comedy at the end of the show’s current fourth season, TVLine has learned exclusively. “I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to come back to New Girl in Season 3 to reprise the role of Coach,” Wayans tells TVLine in an exclusive statement. “Working with this incredibly talented and funny cast and crew has been one of the best experiences of my career.” The actor’s exit is the latest twist in his circuitous "New Girl" experience. The "Happy Endings" alum starred in the "New Girl" pilot back in 2011, but his commitment to the aforementioned ABC sitcom prevented him from continuing with the series. When "Happy Endings" was axed, Wayans returned to "New Girl" for a four-episode arc, eventually becoming a “special guest star” for the remainder of Season 3. Last May, ahead of Season 4, he was upped to full-fledged series regular in a one-year deal. “We love Damon and are so lucky to have had him return for the past season-and-a-half,” "New Girl" executive producer Liz Meriwether tells TVLine. “We are working on crafting an exit for him that will leave the door open for many more returns, especially since Coach is our resolution to the upcoming ‘Who’s Jess’ Baby Daddy?’ storyline.” (We’re relatively certain that last part’s a joke.) Wayans will appear in every remaining episode of the season. In this Tuesday’s Valentine’s Day-themed installment, Coach meets a possible love interest (Banshee‘s Meaghan Rath) on a Nick-planned “epic” bar crawl. http://tvline.com/2015/02/05/damon-w...eason-4-coach/ |

First they got rid Adam Pally of The Mindy Project, now they are getting rid of Damon Wayans of this show.
I think they help both shows recieved good criticisms, but did not boost up their ratings. But I think their replacements would be new young females, IMO. |

I think the departure of Coach will provide more screen time/story lines for Winston, which will be great. Sad to see Coach go though.

they don't need anyone to replace him, they need to get back to better scripts

They do need to find a replacement for Coach, and the third young female member would be the best choice so it can help this show increase its ratings!

Coach is okay but there are just too many main characters on the show. And it also seems the scripts have been a little off, not always funny.

![]() I used to be a HUGE fan of this show (I was HOOKED by the third episode of the 1st season. I absolutely LOVED this hilarious off-the-wall show and always went out of my way to be sure I watched each show. But that was the 1st two seasons. After that, the writers decided to completely trash the show, making it pale in comparison to what it once was. I still catch the show now and then, (One in 3 episodes IF I am not doing anything at the time) and it always leaves me grumbling about how terribly lousy and unfunny it is. Winston - A COP!! A Cop!!! |

Because this is Damon Wayans, Jr.'s second departure from New Girl, have they ever thought about killing off his "Coach" character?

I still think that since actress Zooey Deschanel got pregnant too quick in the wrong time, that this will result that this show is no longer a teen type of this show as it becomes permanently forever as pure adult show when it returns on air by midseason.
