Jersey Girl (2004)
I saw this one back when it came out, and I have to watch it again for a better opinion. I remember George Carlin having a non-comedic role. Smith said the box office failure was due to many people looking at the stars (Ben Affleck, Jennifer Lopez...) and not at the movie itself. I remember Smith also getting a lot of hate from fans being that the movie was a departure from his usual raunchy material and for being PG-13. Zack and Miri Make a Porno (2008) I saw this one fairly recently and I enjoyed it. The film did waaay lower than expected as Smith intended for it to help launch Seth Rogen's career and to match Knocked Up's box office. He was also disappointed that many people refused to market it simply for the "...Make a Porno" title. Cop Out (2010) I didn't care for this one. I personally never cared for Tracy Morgan and I remember not laughing once while viewing it. The film is Kevin Smith's lowest-rated among critics and fans and, as usual, Smith was disappointed w/ the results. Smith also, reportedly, did not get along well w/ Bruce Willis while making the film. They agreed to work together on a film having formed a friendship on the set of Live Free or Die Hard (Smith had a cameo). Red State (2011) This one did it for me. I really enjoyed it. Great cast. Michael Parks and Melissa Leo were awesome; as well as John Goodman and Stephen Root in non-comedic roles. This was a real depature from his "dick and fart jokes" material. Tusk (2014) I didn't see this one yet and I have heard mixed things about it. I do like Justin Long and I will get to it at some point. |

I voted for Red State. I enjoyed it, Michael Parks was great.
Tusk was just plain awful. I usually like weird movies like that, but nothing in that film worked for me. Probably the most annoying performance by Johnny Depp I've seen. |
