I watched the episode Water Anyone? yesterday on DVD and it was funny to see Beaver being accussed of exploiting the other boys in the neighborhood by selling them water. It was funny because in 2015 there are multimillion dollar companies who make their money by selling water to people!! But in 1957 Ward Cleaver made a big deal about Beaver making a couple of bucks selling a few glasses of water around the nieghborhood! Times have sure changed since the episode was filmed!!

In 1957, people were drinking the water piped in to their own houses. The concept of bottled, purified water hadn't been invented yet, or even thought of. It wasn't until years later when someone decided tap water was unsafe to drink, thus the creation of bottled, purified water. In the 1980's is when the popularity of bottled water really took off.
Looking at the Water Anyone? episode from a 1957 point of view, it's easy to see why Ward was not pleased with Beaver selling water to people. Beaver was clever, though. The weather was hot, and people were happy to just get a drink of water, even if they had to pay for it.
