yes she knew and never told roper it was revealed in the very first episode

Just to correct you MikeL 'ol pal, it was actually the second episode, the one in which Chrissy's mother drops by to visit.

Jack told her. He, Mrs. Roper, and Janet were at the Regal Beagle in the second episode, and Mrs. Roper saw Jack checking out/flirting with the waitress, and asked him if he was really straight, and he told her he was. She promised she would never tell.
