What was the best vehicle that you have owned and why?
(Example: comfort, preformance, style, gas mileage or something else) When I was 20, I had a 1975 Monte Carlo that I loved! It had power eveything... For a 1975 it was loaded: Power steeling, power brakes, power windows, power door locks, power seats(bucket seats that looked like a bench,so you could easily seat 3 in front) air conditioning, automatic transmission, (I know that most of this is now standard!) cruise control, delayed winshield wipers, rear window defogger, tilt steering wheel, lights under the review mirror, and I installed an am/fm/cassette player (Concord) with Jensen II speakers. I loved driving it, it was so easy to steer, comfortable to sit in on those long trips and the performance was great!!! The gas mileage was 18/city and 22/highway. I sure do miss that car.I had bought it used with 60,000 miles on it in 1980. I put almost 100,000 miles on it with very little maintance (mainly oil changes, tune-ups and tires) Unfortunately, in 1986 on an icy bridge, the car started to slid sideways and I struck the bridge--- first in the front-end and then slid backwards into a guardrail with the rear-end. Since the car was over 10 years old, but still in excellent condition before the accident, the insurance company still totaled it, due to damage and high mileage. I kept the car and ended up putting the engine and transmission in another vehicle (a station wagon). I know that the engine and transmission had to have well over 250,000 miles on them, before they finally got worn out. |
